I am a fine art photographer. I make my own style of art, paint-photograph. I would like to share my art with other people.
My work has been exhibited in New York, Washington D.C., Cambridge, Massachusetts and Hawaii. The State of Hawaii purchased one of my works for its archives. My pictures have also been used in numerous publications, both in the mainland and in Hawaii.
I studied art and photography at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C., the School of Visual of Arts in New York, Harvard University Extension School in Cambridge. MA and the University of Hawaii. It was during this period that I began to develop my own unique style of photography.
Before beginning my art studies in United States, I had studied calligraphy and Sumi-e (Japanese ink brush technique). By using brush strokes I was able to combine these classical Oriental art forms with modern photographic technique, bringing a flowing movement into my picture.
My subject matter has varied with time, but I often bring mirrors into my pictures. The reflected image brings a surreal quality to the images, transcending time and space. My model, which is often myself, is a woman in search of her lost identity. A mother, daughter, lover, and deserted wife, torn between her traditional upbringing and her present life in a foreign land.
Recently, I have begun to bring color into my work. I’ve incorporated silk screening technique, as a means to do this. This has allowed me to bring more emotion into my pictures, as well as striking contrast.
