ARROW OF LIGHTŪ
OTHER IDEAS
While many packs present our arrows in and of themselves, others like to enhance them.  Over the years, we have heard many ideas from leaders around the world.  These are a few of our favorites, as they are simple and effective.
WOOD MOUNTING PLAQUE
Size is up to you - simply cut or purchase a pre-cut piece at a hobby store, then stain or paint as desired.  Presentation area is often completed with boy's name, "Arrow of LightŪ", pack number and date and it can be printed with permanent marker, paint pen, wood burned, or engraved on a brass plate.  One leader prints a mini-certificate on parchment paper, burns the edges and decoupages onto the plaque.  Another attaches a plastic photo sleeve and inserts a picture of the boy and his family taken during the ceremony.  Pre-drill small pilot holes and screw in 2 cup hooks where the arrow shaft will rest.  For stability, we suggest a minimum of 3 inches between the hooks.
FELT ACHIEVEMENT HANGING
Red matches the "patch vest" and felt eliminates hemming.  To determine size, lay out a sample of the boy's achevements and measure the widest point and the length of the layout.  Add 6" at top for total length.  Fold top 3" to back of hanging and stitch or fabric glue a single line to form a pocket for the arrow shaft to pass through.  Glue or sew a duplicate Arrow of LightŪ award at the top of the hanging.  The New York leader who gave us this idea some years ago conducts a final meeting/party for her den and adults when achievement items are removed fom the boys' shirts and sewn or glued to the banner.  Empty shirts are then ready for Boy Scout insignia or donated to the pack.  If you use this idea in conjunction with a mounting plaque, consider the space available between the the hooks upon which the arrow rests.
ACHIEVEMENT BEADS
For those who have wrapped or painted arrow shafts in the past, we suggest this alternative.  Fold a length of leather thong (or any sturdy like material) over the arrow shaft.  Using different colors of pony beads to indicate acheivements, thread the beads up the ends of the thong.  Tie a single overhand knot and the bottom of the beads and let the ends hang free.  Ends can be further finished with small feathers or other decorative items.  There is no "official" color plan - create a system to fit your pack's unique needs.  You may want to add colors to recognize special pack events, religious awards, other special achievements.  One possibility:

orange - Tiger
light blue - Bobcat
yellow - Wolf
dark blue - Bear
gold metallic - Gold Arrow Point
silver metallic - Silver Arrow Points
red - Webelos
silver metallic - Activity Pins
green - Compass Patch
gold metallic - Compass Points
