The Deluxe Vinyl Chess board shown above is trimmed from a vinyl 4-Way Chess board by Taurus Games. Deluxe Chess, and many other chess variants can be played on the vinyl 4-Way Chess board.

Deluxe Chess is played on a 14 x 8 square checkerboard.

All of the rules of regular chess apply.

The stonger player must exchange one of his Queens for a Knight at the start of the game. This makes for a more even game where either player has a chance to win. If the higher rated player is over 400 rating points higher than his opponent then he must trade both corner Queens for Knights. Any other combination of trading pieces may also be agreed upon by the players. HAVE FUN!!!

Special Rules for castling: The King may castle with any rook that hasn't moved yet by moving next to the rook and the rook jumping over the King to the square directly opposite and next to the King. All other F.I.D.E. restrictions for castling still apply.

TAURUS GAMES

Optional Rules: You can start with two queens on each side instead of three. A queen should always be replaced by a knight, and the initial set-up can simply be agreed upon by the two players.

In regular chess white always moves first, in Deluxe Chess it doesn't really matter who goes first, its up to the two players to decide.

In regular chess you can not move into check, but I prefer to play that if my opponent moves into check I will simply capture his king and end the game rather than prolonging the inevitable. Young players will learn quicker this way.
