KEN'S MODDED WRX IMPRESSIONS
In my personal opinion street cars do not have to be extremely fast, but must be stylish, enjoyable to drive,
and reliable for day to day use. Even on the streets, cars must be balanced from engine power to handling
to braking. My WRX is setup for street and some road course. I would upgrade the brakes if I were to
run roadcourse on a regular basis. It is not a drag car, but has enough power to have respective stance on
the streets. The WRX can easily be built to accelerate much faster with a few more bolt-ons... if you want
serious power, modify the latest 2.5L STi's....unfortunately, there were no STi's available back in 2002...
Drive safely on the streets.
1. STYLING Complete make over from factory... geez, what were those engineers thinking???
- Many compliments from car enthusiasts.
2. SUSPENSION responsivness dramatically improved, much more agile and precise handling.
- Corners with greater speeds, very predictable. Can keep up with most modded Honda FF platforms.
Turn-in is fast, but the characteristics of the AWD without dramatic LSD modifications causes
the car to push-under. Once the car exits the turn, this is were it can easily pass most
NA platforms.
- Completely adjustable to driver preference...next up would be the TEIN FLEX with EDFC.
3. TONE of Intake, Exhaust, Blow-off Valve are much more agressive and responsive.
4. ACCELERATION dramatically improved, especially in the 5,000+ RPM area.
- Strong surge of power after 3,500RPM to redline...and much more consistent than factory.
- Scared off several Porshe 911's and Corvettes, through the turns easily kept up with M3's,
blew past IntegraTypeR's, RSX-S, S2000's, 350Z's, G35's, Mustang GT's, some modded Civics
and much more. It is not setup for drag racing, but not a bad contender either.
5. TRANSMISSION gates easier to enter, several tricks to remedy gate lockouts learned. Driver
learning required as this is not the smoothest transmission out on the market today.
Bottomline: Truely a driver enthusiast's street machine.
