What's Happening
Christopher Haney most recently debuted the roles of Don Jose in Carmen, with Belleayre Music Festival and Des Grieux in Puccini's Manon Lescaut with Taconic Opera. He also sang the role of Alfredo in Bronx Opera's production of La Traviata. Audiences were delighted at his company debuts with Mid-Michigan Opera Company in the title role of GounodŐs Faust and New Jersey Verismo Opera's production of Lucia di Lamermoor. Christopher received rave reviews for his performances of Rodolfo in La Boheme and B.F. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly for the Bellayre Music Festival.
He has been heard in the role of Alfredo in La Traviata for his debut with the Bellayre Music Festival.
Mr. Haney has received critical acclaim for his company debuts with the Opera Theatre of Philadelphia in a new production of La Traviata (Alfredo), Il Trovatore (Manrico) with Boston Bel Canto Opera and his New York City debut in La Bohme (Rodolfo) with Taconic Opera. Mr. Haney has rapidly established himself as one of the exciting young tenors currently essaying the romantic Italian and French repertoire.
Critics and audiences continue to praise Christopher Haney as rave reviews followed for his stirring portrayal of Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) with the Whitewater and Sorg Opera Companies. In recent seasons, the tenor has performed the leading roles in Madama Butterfly (Lt. Pinkerton) and Rigoletto (Duke of Mantua). He has also appeared in productions of MassenetŐs Manon and HumperdinckŐs rarely performed Die Knigskinder with the Sarasota Opera.
Equally at home with recent additions to the operatic repertoire, Mr. Haney has performed the leading tenor role of Gardiner in the New York premiere of Michael ChingŐs new opera Faith with the Vital Theatre Company, which is set to be recorded in October of 2000. He also appeared as Soloist in the world premiere of Houston Grand OperaŐs critically acclaimed production of Harvey Milk, under the baton of John De Main, and Ned RoremŐs Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters for the Aspen Opera Theatre.
In addition to his operatic activities, Christopher Haney continues to excite audiences in ŇThree TenorsÓ concerts with the Plano Symphony, Irving Symphony and Gulf Coast Symphonies.
Review of Lucia di Lammermoor-
"Lucia's lover, Edgardo, played by Christopher Haney, was just as moving. On his own, Haney was superb, particularly in his character's death scene in the final act. His mastery of tone and dynamics carried the audience along to his inevitable end." RICHMOND-PALLADIUM-ITEM
Review of La Boheme-
Tenor Christopher Haney (Rodolfo) sang the role of a love-struck suitor with a depth of feeling that was rewarded with wild applause. HaneyŐs ability to act gave credence to RodolfoŐs decision to end the affair with Mimi. His passionate lovelorn aria wafted to the far corners of the house, lingering delicately until the final note died away. It was incredibly moving. (North County News-New York)
Review of Il Trovatore-
"Tenor Christopher Haney, as Manrico, has a good, potentially clarion voice. Haney's aria 'Ah si ben mio' displayed a patrician, almost Mozartean elegance. He delivered two manly high C's in the cabaletta; Verdi didn't require them but tradition does. It's all there..." THE BOSTON GLOBE
"Haney displayed a bright, masculine ... tenor sound to Manrico. He was sensitive enough to attempt real trills in 'Ah si ben mio' (something few tenors bother with) and secure enough to deliver a strong 'Di quella pira'". THE BOSTON HERALD
