McLENNAN COUNTY

Named for Neil McLennan, Sr. (1777-1867), pioneer settler
County Seat: Waco   Area: 1,031 square miles   Pop. (2000): 213,517

The flag of McLennan County was designed in September of 1999 by Judge Jim Lewis, Judge Joe Johnson, and Steve Hendrick as a result of efforts spearheaded by Commissioner Ray Meadows, who had submitted several proposals for a flag. The design thus created was adopted by the Commissioners' Court on 5 October 1999. The flag is based on the Texas State flag and features the dome of the McLennan County Courthouse rising above a blue Lone Star outlined in white. The name of the County appears on the white stripe and the date of the County's creation on the red stripe. Both inscriptions are in black.
