Over 75% of our Texas inmates were abused, neglected and/or abandoded. 95% of all prostitutes were sexually abused. Each year, child abuse incidents continue to rise. Texans spent over 700 MILLION of their hardearned tax dollars on CPS and the Juvenille Justice system last year. Do you think NEXT YEAR will be better? CONNECT THE DOTS. Whatever we are doing ISN'T working. Do the math! It doesn't take a genius to realize that helping these kids WHEN they need the help, is going to save millions in tax dollars as well as human lives (maybe even your own or your child's.)
Human nature dictates that we avoid negatives and things that are distasteful to our nature. We would beg you to resist this reaction and bear with us for a moment because children’s lives hang in the balance. Our nation is faced with an ever growing  national epidemic the likes of which, it has never experienced before in its entire history. The disease is not communicable in the normal sense of the word. The “generational cycle of child abuse” spreads through the minds and hearts of innocent children that have done nothing wrong other than being in the wrong place, at the wrong time. The average is up from a few years ago. Statistics now agree that a pedophile will have sexually abused 150 children before he is apprehended. Each of those children he abused will be extremely susceptible to either becoming abusers themselves, and/ or become involved in other antisocial and/or illegal behavior. And so it spreads to other innocents, leaving in its path a wake of human tragedy.

We have a tool, a modem, a curative that has been unsurpassed in healing the human heart for centuries. Properly prepared, properly presented, no force on the face of the earth can match him. He is called the Horse. His archetype representing strength and freedom of spirit is unrivaled. His nonjudgmental nature accepts any and all who would befriend him, regardless of their physical or emotional deformity or mutilation. We use this force at a time in an abused child’s life when it will do the most good, (immediately after Child Protective Services places them in a crisis center.) No one in the nation has ever done the before to the very best of our knowledge. The program has been an unequivocal success. Expanded it to a statewide level, it will  bring our proud state to the rank it should have had all along by helping to break the generational cycle of abuse. Please visit our info sites as to why our program is so desperately needed and how it works. If not out of simple human compassion, then perhaps to save billions in tax dollars.

The Official Texas Pony Express is an Immediate Intervention Equitherapy program designed specifically to help severely abused children immediately after Child Protective Services places them in a crisis center or shelter. The program has numerous goals: (1.) Allow access to the second level of the five levels of human/equine bonding. (2.)Nullify existing trauma. (3.)Provide a physical/emotional niche from the outside world  and the opportunity to become one of those elite humans referred to as "mounted." (4.) Create/enhance self esteem, self confidence and assertiveness. (5.) Instill life/survival skills through program lessons that directly correlate to their interactions with the horses. (6.) Create a substantial base for future EAP/EFP therapy. (7.) Instill appreciation and respect for the horse and interactive horsemanship skills and safety procedures. (8.) Create opportunities for therapists to reach a client that would not be readily accessible through verbal therapy as well as metaphors and correlations to real life issues and treatment.
The program horses are the only horses in Texas ever to be certified for Animal Assisted Therapy by Delta Society. In addition to the Delta Society testing, they must pass the OTPE Training Evaluation before they are allowed to independently interact with the childen. The Training Evaluation consists of specific interactions to maintain the highest safety standards in the nation and is so intense, that it necessitated implementing a completely different, non-violent, non-restrictive training format (Foundation Training.)
Articles acclaiming the program have been written in the Dallas Morning News, the Ellis County Press, Cowboys and Indians magazine, City and Country Pets, Today Newspapers and Dr. Laura Schlessinger's "Perspective." Any donation for hay, feed and veterinary services to help these very special horses continue their work is very sincerely appreciated. All donations are tax deductible.
Our Training Evaluation and letters of referral from various shelters, pastors, Boys and Girl's Clubs, Sierra Club, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, and other reputable individuals and organizations can be faxed or emailed. A radio interview on 6/23/01 on the Rick Lamb "Horse Show" about the training and our program can be heard at: http://www.thehorseshow.com/banner.html
Therapists, foster parents or supervised adults working with an abused child are extended an open invitation. In ten years of operation, we have never charged a fee for our services, relying completely on private donations. Please, help us continue this vital program.
God Bless.
