BOONKANJANARAM MEDITATION CENTER

Chonburi, Thailand

Entrance

The purpose of this webpage is to provide information about Boonkanjanaram Meditation Center to those in need of a place to learn Dhamma (the way to liberation) or practice Vipassana (meditation) and was not created to influence anyone's spiritual belief.  In fact, as taught by Buddha, Dhamma is nonsectarian and open to everyone.

I have just returned from the Center in Chonburi, Thailand to Los Angeles. While there, I met several visiting Westerners, including a Swiss private banker, who were seeking a sanctuary from the hectic pace of their normal lives. It is they, who influenced me to create this page. On the most part, they were planning to stay for a few weeks; many stay much longer.  One thing I noticed in common was that they all voiced their enthusiastic approval of the benefits they received from their practice of Vipassa-kammathana.

This site is dedicated to my grandparents, Mr. Chua and Anong Jantrupon. Mr. Chua is 97 years of age and still helps guide the Center. Special thanks to Mr. Frank Tullius for his dedication in bringing the Center's books to fruition. We are saddened to report that Mrs. Anong passed away on May 22, 2002 at the age of 88.  We should also note that Mr. Frank was afflicted with advanced Alzheimer's disease and is being cared for in a retirement home near Bangkok.

BOONKANJANARAM MEDITATION CENTER is located near Pattaya city in Chonburi Province. It was established in 2506 BE (1963) as a juristic entity (non-profit foundation), by Mr. Boon Charoenchai, who was at that time Minister of Industry in the Thai Government. In March 2507 BE (1964), the first students began to arrive.

The Center has also published several books, one of which is in electronic form: "What is Buddhism?" (2nd Edition, 1992)

For approximately U.S. $3.00 a day, the center provides a quiet, clean, and comfortable kuti (small hut) for mediation, and meals.

All guests with a sincere desire to learn Buddhism and meditation are welcomed.

Located in Jomtien Beach, 5 km south of Pattaya. From Bangkok, take a bus from the Eastern (Ekamai) Bus Terminal to Sattahip and get off at Wat Boonkanjanaram, just past KM post 150, then walk down Wat Boon Road alongside the wat; entrance to the meditation center is a short way beyond the wat grounds.
