HEARTBREAKER 10" EP on remedial records
splendid e-zine:
Composed of two skinny black guys with loose ties hanging from their necks,
and a chick in sunglasses flogging the bass guitar, this Space City trio slashes
through garage-inspired originals that have plenty of fuzzed-out guitar chords,
compressed ‘n’ catchy vocals and a bag o' explosive energy that's sure to detonate
at any moment. In between screechy vocal quips from bassist Rebecca,
Omari and Lurch howl about girls, cars and food with promising garage-rock-
delivering authority that’ll make you a convert in no time flat.
blank generation:
Yes! This is what I like! Pure rock 'n' roll garage punk! These Texans
present you with eight rockers, and everyone kicks your ass! They're fast,
have cool guitar licks, and catchy lyrics. That makes this one hot slab of vinyl!
They give ya two ultra rad instros and fine songs like, "Don't Try Me",
"Punk Rock Girls", and "There She Goes". You have to dig the lo-fi baby! (JD)
teen scene:
What we've got here is a revved up rock'n'roll record that just plain GOES!
They take the best elements of the lo-fi garages punkers of the early part
of this decade, but refuse to bury them under a demolished building.--From the
kick-off title cut you know this one's something special.--The band's sound is
pure rock'n'roll no matter what direction they've pointed their wheels in.
I NEED YOUR LOVIN (but i don't need you) 7" single on alien snatch!
no brains zine:
Wow wow wow, unbelievable this is definitely the biggest surprise in last few
months. This is probably one of the greatest garage trash bands. If you like
Mummies and similar stuff you mustn't miss this pearl. If you don't have it
already, beneath is email and address - so go and order your copy - it's only
500 pressed!! Jewws are trio: Omari, Rebecca and Matt. "I Need Your Lovin" is
short and furious trashy garage punk with great vocal, great guitar, great
rhythm - everything great - song you should play 10 times a day - it's a
killer and a hit on my turntable. B side is not much different - Jewws are
kickin' and rollin', "We Come Out At Night" has great riff and "Twist Party"
is so fast - I don't know how they play this. Are you guys on speed? This is
definitely sooooooooo GREAT!!!!!!!! Around this time their album will be out
on Demolition Derby - so make sure to get it!!! And Alien Snatch Records,
keep releasing great stuff!!!! (vanya)
razorcake:
Sweet, snotty, no-nonsense garage rock that huffs fabric softener (for that instant,
wicked high which leaves blisters on your nostrils but smells nice) that spazzes from
the gate like a mis-medicated retard hucked off the short bus and dragged along
by his leash. The music strips down to the bare essentials like a meth'd hooker in
an ass-floss thong, kicks for the balls on the first note with combat boots and Converse
All Stars (care of Omari and Matt), and doesn't stop until a spiked heel (care of Rebecca)
grinds it all to a halt shortly after. For fans of the Kill-a-Watts, Motards, and Dirtys.
Think Chuck Berry and radioactivity. Me like. Me like.
MRR:
........cool name, cool lo-fi garage......tight, like my butthole....
KINKS, TROGGS, STATICS, MUMMIES, HEADCOATS, etc.....
it's all in the mix......fine looking chick bass player, yes indeed.....

YYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! The Jewws! The Jewws are here!!!!!!!!
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!! Okay! Woo! Alright! Yes!
The Jewws, people, the Jewws!!!!! !!!!!!!!
Aye…The Jewws……… The Jewws are outta Texas and are one of the coolest
garage rock ‘n’ roll numbers out there these days… The Jewws are in the same league
as the Drags and kick it with lowdown and dirty vox, fuzzzzzzeeee guitars, snappin’ bass lines,
and rumblin’ drums. If you like rock ‘n’ roll and hate everything else you’ll like the Jewws!
Get circumcised!!! (JD)
The Tuesday Night Rock And Roll Dance Party:
Just got it the other day.....this platter smokes. We'll definitely be giving this one
many spins on the airwaves here in New York and I'm sure this will spend plenty
of time toppin' the charts on the Dance Party.

sonic wave:
“When Your Man Is Gone”, “The Space City Beat”, “Love In A Pill” o “Gotta Go”.
(Pepe)
MRR:
......lord help me, these here JEWWS make me wanna suck my own cock.....and maybe eat
out my own asshole....with passion!!!! Now this record is what good garage music is s'posed
to sound like.....for many years now quality garage has gone on the back burner and it's fan
base either got into the AC/DC fad or spread their legs far apart to receive the noisy college-
boy swamp rock offered by labels like IN THE RED and such.... finally....some good ol' fashion
garage... with hooks and style.... and they sound so young....mmmmmmmmm, yum yum......
they're from Texas ta boot.... and that just goes to show you folks, cuz about ten years ago Texas
had a great garage rock scene.....so these JEWWS are coming from a fine background.....my only
beef is the cover art...all bands should take note and never allow the record label's "in-house" graphic
-arts dude to design their record sleeve, cuz this is what you wind up with....generic!!!!!! Remember,
the sleeve is just as important as the music!!!!! Next time I wanna see a nice shot of the band wearing
something smart....especially the bass player...she better be lookin' fine for the next cover, yes-sir-ee!!!
I wanna product that'll make me so over the top horny....horny enough to eat the corn outta shit.....!!!!!!
Still, the JEWWS are at the top of my list for this kinda action....maybe they'll play Frisco soon so
we all can see how good they are in bed....(SW)
now wave magazine:
Fuck Yeah! The sonic bastard child of Supercharger and the first Hi Fives album. Fuzzed out,
surfy, lo-fi garage rock at its absolute best. Both of these releases are essential for your
record collection. Seriously, how do you hope to convince the ladies that you're not a
total square if you don't own these? I got to open for these guys twice in Texas while my
band was on tour, and they completely fuckin' floored me. When I got home, I was pleasantly
surprised that not only were they amazing live, but their records knocked me on my ass as
well. Buy these now! (Johnny Problem)
blank generation:
Hot shit! Cram a pantload of overdone garage-rock flourishes into one platter,
dirty up the mix, spin it at high speeds, and—somehow—you end up with a full-
length that’s still fun, catchy, and damn-near essential. One gal + two guys +
50’s r‘n’r + Rip Off sensibility = no brainer. Get on it!
(EL)
razorcake:
As soon as the needle touches the lp, there's this vibrating shimmy. The Jewws have
the immaculate ability to sound instantly recognizeable without sloppily ripping off
their influences (from Man or Astroman? to Chuck Berry) and are one of the few
garagebands around right now that are naturals, who don't sound like they were
specifically produced to be lo-fi. Dynamically impressive, this is great for a bunch of
different occasions. Lower, it's great mood music, cranked up real high, it's much
guaranteed to get you laid. Excellent. (Todd)
rifraf magazine:

ox magazine germany :
Whoo-aa! Wo kommen die denn plötzlich wieder her?
eingespielt.
Yes, this is the "now sound explosion". (Joachim Hiller)
no front teeth:
This is great fucked up garage Rock 'N' Roll from Texas that has so much
balls and attitude it's unreal! They kind of remind me slightly of LOLI AND
THE CHONES or THE REDS only more Rock 'N' Roll and more fucked up-
this is really simple and stripped down and the guitar sound is amazing.
There are some real gems on here, 'Mercury To Mars', 'Girl Gets Around',
'Love In A Pill' and 'Keep On Cryin'. There's also a couple of cool instru-
mental tracks on here, 'Moon Equipped' which has that great surfy/spy
guitar sound and 'Saturn Swivel' a much heavier, distorted instrumental.
The liner notes by Ray Pride and Tim Kerr are very cool too...this is what
it's all about, if this don't get you movin' nuthin' will.
blank generation:
It’s no secret to anyone who heard their Alien Snatch single that the Jewws know
how to rock the fuck out. What some of you may not realize is that the Jewws just
might be one of the finest rock ‘n’ roll bands on the planet right now. Combine
the classic r ‘n’ r swagger of the Devil Dogs with the energy and tempo of Teen-
generate and you’ll get an idea of what the Jewws are all about. Don’t interpret
this as me saying that they’re a bunch of imitators. Despite sharing some common
traits with other bands, the Jewws manage to create a sound that’s unmistakably
their own. Like so many greats before them they make the straight up rock ‘n’ roll
sound we’ve all heard a zillion times sound so fresh and exciting it seems like
you’re hearing it for the first time. Another thing the Jewws have in common with
a lot of great bands are songs that deal with all of the relevant issues in our lives;
namely girls, rock ‘n’ roll, cars, space, and even more girls. Really, what else is
worth talking about? I don’t want to hear any excuses, go out and get this record
today. I guarantee you’ll love it. How can I be so sure you’ll dig the Jewws? It’s
simple: if you don’t love the Jewws you don’t love rock ‘n’ roll. (SS)
splendid e-zine:
It's been too fucking long since someone put out a good garage rock 'n' roll ALBUM.
That's right kids, we ain't talkin' CDs here, and yes, it's time to throw some vinyl snobbery
right back at ya. Belgium's coolest record store and label, Demolition Derby, has done
the honors of giving this three-piece of hyperactive Houstonian garage rockers a shot
at underground fame with the release of their debut, l'explosion du son de maintenant!
(that's the now sound explosion for you one language speaking American goons).
Have you been missing your Mummies records? Sobbing over Supercharger? Drooling
for a Dummies reunion? Listen up, you little bitches, you got something new to harangue
your pals about -- The Jewws. While some may be briefly taken aback by the band's
epithet, it's pretty obvious that there's no subversive political motivation or anti-Semitism
at work here --just damn good, heart-racing rock.
Omari, Rebecca and Matt do their best at reviving the sounds of the afore-
mentioned '90s garage rockers as they up the ante with slices of C. Berry and an
occasional reverb-soaked chord, a la The Sonics. Just as fast as you can whip out
your shitty sounding Silvertone air guitar, The Jewws tear down the metaphorical
wall o' rock, brick by brick, paying heed to the monsters of the genre, sparking a
well needed revitalization of raw 'n' ragged hip gyrating.
Hands down, the coolest number here has got to be "The Space City Beat!" Paying
homage to the band's dump of a city, this fast-paced ditty spits out classic three-chord
rock with overdriven vox and a tempo that'll leave your blood churning with excitement.
The Jewws throw in a sound clip from the end of Mel Brooks' History of the World
("Jeewwwwwsssss in spaaaace!") to start it all off, and "Mercury to Mars" gives us more
of the hip space-garage-o-mania that this trio does so well. "Moon Equipped" finishes
off the interstellar triumvirate, leaving you gasping for air.
There are plenty of love-lost woes, too, with "Keep on Cryin'", "When Your Man is Gone" and
"Bad Lovin' Thing" almost making you want to shed a tear -- but The Jewws barbed delivery
reminds us all that they'd rather see you shakin' it around then reaching for a box of Kleenex.
Love sucks, but The Jewws still kick ass, and they'll worry about all of them love troubles later.
"Gotta Go" caps off the album with a raging display of feedback-soaked pauses, exploding
drums and greasy guitar work that's sure to leave things on fire. Just as quick as they started,
the Jewws go out in a blaze of glory; it's enough to give you a music-induced hyperventilating
"health event". That's right baby, breathe. BREATHE, I say.
Kids, it's another round of garage rock revivalism, coming to a tent near you. While you're
waiting for it to come to your town, it's best that you indoctrinate yourself in the ways of
the best thing to come out of Houston in quite some time. Get up off your lazy MP3-sharing
ass and buy this LP...or we'll all hope that something real, real bad happens to you.
(Andrew Magilow)
no brains zine:
Finally I have it. I was waiting for it to get in the record shops here, but it took way too long -
so I had to get it in Germany. I was really excited about it 'cos I loved that 7" and this LP is killer.
The Jewws are starting to be my fave new band. I like everything about this band: first and
most important great catchy songs, great vocal, trashy sound, fast songs filled with energy ...
I hope to have their 10" soon - I must have everything from this band. There is no bad song
on this LP, there is no good song on this LP - there are only great songs on it!!!! What I love
about The Jewws is that they are crazy and unpredicable - they have more 60s garage
sounding songs, or more punk sounding ones, but they even go surf, r'n'r or r'n'b. And they
have these weird song endings that are sometimes funny. My faves are: "My Baby Don't Rock
And Roll", "When Your Man Is Gone" and "Bad Lovin' Thing" on A side. No wait, "Mercury To
Mars" is a fucking killer too and "You're Gonna Lose" too and "Girl Gets Around" and the surf
one that stops suddenly and somebody says "I don't like this surfin' shit" - hahaha. I told you
there are only great songs here, the whole A side just rocks to the max. First instro took you
to the moon and the second one (first on B side) will take you to Saturn and after that you get
ride to Space City. The Jewws will blow you into space cos they go on with same energy on B
side!!! Ok I won't write the names of the songs on B side too - when you get LP you'll see them.
And if you don't get the LP, you're missing a whole lot. (vanya)
smashin' transistors:
The Jewws are turning up the juice this time around. The songs are all Wham-Bam! This is a rowdy
and sloppy affair which keeps the tempo at a slam bang pace but this is also where the problems
start to sent in. Though the energy level is tops it sounds like they were too rushed in the studio and
the little things that made their "Heartbreaker" EP so catchy and cool (like Rebecca's screams/backing
vocals for example) seem to be missing this time around. At times it conjures up thoughts of the Drags
or Supercharger but it lacks the formers maniacal tension and the idiotic charisma of the latter. There's
some good songs here and I will include them on mixes that I make for friends but the album as a whole
suffers from everything sounding the same when it's played all the way through.
melodick:
cyclops: four eyeballs out of five
“l’explosion du son de maintenant” is the new lp from the Jewws on Belgium’s Demolition Derby
Records. Don’t let the album name fool you these cats are from Houston, Texas. They play a fast
brand of garage punk rock n’ roll. I’m kinda surprised Estrus didn’t put this one out. It’s right up
their alley. I do believe these guys were weaned on Gories, Chuck Berry and the whole series
of “Back From the Grave” records. All the songs are fast, rockin’ and catchy as hell. The
record blast off with “Mercury to Mars.” This is a blast of pure rock n’ roll energy. “You’re
Gonna Loose” has a great 50’s rock n’ roll feel to it. It could be a Chuck Berry cover.
“My Baby Don’t Rock & Roll” has a cool catchy chorus and handclaps. “Moon Equipped”
is a surf-instrumental. Side B kicks off with the instrumental “Saturn Swivel” and the rockin’
“Space City Beat” is right on it’s heels. These guys embrace their NASA roots. I like it cuz
I worked on the space program for years. “Just Blink, She’s Gone” has that classic “Hand Jive”
beat and a great guitar solo. The record ends with “Gotta Go.” It’s all feedback and fuzzed-up
guitars. It rocks out and rips your eardrums right out. I love these guys. They play a classic
rock n’ roll with punk rock energy and top it all off with great songs. I am now an official fan
and will be buying anything these guys put out. You should too.
cosmik debris:
The Jewws' brand of garage rock is coated with that bluesy chill that made the early Stones
so cool, but they can suddenly shift gears into instro surf mode, make it very credible, and
still have the same aura about them. Maybe it's just the spell they've got you under by track
five, "Moon Equipped," that somehow makes the sudden shift to surf logical, but they jolt
your senses when the song is suddenly interrupted with the sound of the needle ripping
across the record and the perplexed voice of a young kid asking "Why'd you do that!?"
The cynical, sneering reply? "Aww, I don't like that surfin' shit." He might mean it, since
there's just the one surf tune amongst 13 rockers, some of them, like "Animal," so hot it
throws sparks from the stylus. Garage fans want a certain feeling that's hard to put into
words, one they get from old records by The Troggs, Chocolate Watch Band and MC5,
and more recent ones by The Kaisers, The Smugglers and, thankfully, many other excellent
revival bands. If you know some serious garage freaks and they haven't added this Texas
band's records to their collections yet, be a hero and turn 'em on to The Jewws. (DJ Johnson)
