About 13th Street Repertory Company
13th Street Repertory Company (TSRC) was founded in 1972 by Artistic Director Edith O'Hara. TSRC provides a place for actors, directors, playwrights, and technicians to develop their craft in a caring, nurturing, professional environment. Anywhere between five to seven shows run weekly, including children's shows on the weekend. TSRC is also home to the longest running Off-Off-Broadway play, LINE, by Israel Horovitz, now in its 28th year at our theatre. Additionally, the New Works Reading Series, developed by Literary Manager Sandra Nordgren, presents weekly readings of plays primarily from four anthologies published by the New York Theatre Experience: "Plays and Playwrights for the New Millennium", "Plays and Playwrights 2001", "Plays and Playwrights 2002", and "Plays and Playwrights 2003". These are among the best plays reviewed by Martin Denton at nytheatre.com, one of the country's most prestigious theatre websites. Additional readings are added to the series by resident playwrights, new works by the writers published in the four anthologies, and selected works: www.NewWorksReadingSeries.cjb.net

STAGE MANAGING:
We have a Directors Unit comprised of approximately 10 directors. Depending on the needs of the director, the intern may assist in the casting, create a "blocking script", be on book and take directors notes. Intern is responsible for all administrative duties which will include informing cast members of their rehearsal schedules, creating and maintaining computerized rehearsal schedules and cast contact sheets, prop lists, various tech scripts, etc. Mainstage rehearsals are usually at night from 6-9 or 7-10. They will require anywhere from 2-4 nights per week. There might be a weekend day rehearsal as well. Among other duties, intern will learn the lights and sound for the show, train technicians, oversee props, costumes, setting up and breaking down the set and will conduct rehearsals in the director's absence. Intern must have email access and a PC computer with Windows.
TECHNICIANS/PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS:
Consists of any, or all, of the following:
Stage Hands, Running Crew, Lighting and Sound Technicians, Production Assistants.
Will train on state-of-the-art computerized lighting board.
DIRECTING:
Requires directing experience in school or in theatres. Directing interns are required to direct readings in the New Works Reading Series (See Literary Manager's Assistant for more information on the series.) We may also have children's shows in need of a director. Directing internships include assisting the director of the current mainstage. Intern must attend all rehearsals and production meetings.
ACTING:
We require our acting interns to perform in our children's shows and to audition for the New Works Reading Series (see Literary Manager's Assistant below for more details.) Intern must be available to be in the children's shows and readings and to be able to rehearse a few times weekly. If not cast in the reading, the intern will attend the reading on Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm. Acting internships require 2 box office shifts totalling 6 hours and however many hours for the children's shows and the Reading Series. Total internship should range from 20-25 hours a week. While participating in the Reading Series, you will acquire invaluable knowledge by working with a variety of scripts, actors, and directors.
LITERARY MANAGER'S ASSISTANT:
We have a very exciting reading series in place (www.NewWorksReadingSeries.cjb.net) involving many talented, new writers who are published in the NY Theatre Experience's anthologies: "Plays and Playwrights for the New Millennium", "Plays and Playwrights 2001", "Plays and Playwrights 2002", and "Plays and Playwrights 2003". We also read plays from writers outside of the anthologies, but this selection is limited. Interns will gain invaluable experience by working on the series, and by perhaps even directing some of the readings. Working closely with the Literary Manager, interns will do play evaluations and be responsible for the series' administration which are key components of the internship. Intern must have email access and a PC computer with Windows for administration charts. Interns will be exposed to many writers, directors and actors and will meet with the directors and playwrights to go over procedures making certain that the director understands the playwright's intentions for the reading. Additionally, if the intern is a writer, there will be an opportunity to have the intern's work read by our readers with a written and/or oral evaluation, or the readers may want to have it read in the series or put into a workshop.
MARKETING:
Marketing internships require college with a major in marketing, having fulfilled at least 2/3's of marketing curriculum. Intern must be a self-starter, detail oriented, and possess creative and critical thinking skills. Intern will have enough understanding of marketing strategies to present an effective marketing plan while taking into account the monetary limitations of our theatre. This plan will increase ticket sales and foster increased awareness of the creative work and presence of our theatre throughout the theatre-going community. Intern must have email access and a PC computer with Windows. Interns must provide samples of marketing campaigns they worked on and also references related to those campaigns.
WEBMASTER:
WebMaster internships require prior website design, a strong working knowledge of graphic programs, HTML, and a variety of computer equipment and programs. Our website needs maintenance and some restructuring and updating. Additionally, the intern will update the website in a timely manner. Intern must have email access and a PC computer with Windows as well as the software and hardware necessary. Intern must provide samples of websites they designed and/or maintained plus provide related references.
