The surname "Thoma"
The * marks my direct-line ancestors. The (-2G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma
Born before Bertha were the following siblings: Otto (b. 23 July 1864) (-2G), Leo (b. 3 Apr. 1866) (-2G), and Kunigunde (b. 21 Feb. 1868) (-2G).
Her birth and baptism are in the records of the church at Rickenbach. Rickenback is the larger town next to Altenschwand and serves as the administration center. Her baptism was on 22 Nov. 1869. The godparents were Stephan Thoma (brother of her father) and Kunigunde Schmid (sister of her mother).

| Here are two pictures of the same schoolhouse but taken in 2004. The second floor and attic are now rented out as an apartment. The first floor is now used by the local music society. |

Her mother died in Altenschwand on 22 Dec. 1871.
Her father remarried to Emilie Jaeger on 5 Jan. 1874 in Grafenhausen.
Her half-brother, Emil, was born in Altenschwand on 29 Oct. 1874.
She died at the age of 5 and a half on 17 May 1875. She may not have had the opportunity to go to school.
--------------------
Her father died in 1910 in St. Louis, MO. Her brother Otto died in 1930 in St. Louis and her brother Leo died in 1939 in Kansas City, MO. Her sister Rosina died in Oberibach, Baden in 1959. I do not know when and where her sister Kunigunde and her step-mother died.
