Middle name, Winfield, is taken after his father. "Charles" is taken after Carl (Charles) Heinrich Thake* (-4G), his great-great grandfather; Eugene Charles Thake* (-3G), his great grandfather; and Winfield Charles Jacob Thake (-1G), his father. In May of 1938 Chuck and his parents were living in Morning View, KY. In June of 1938 they may have visited or moved to St. Louis.

In August of 1948 Chuck and his parents were living in the above house on the grounds of the VA Hospital in Ft. Thomas, KY where his father was working. He was living with his parents in Champaign, IL at the time of his brother Owen's birth on 28 Dec. 1949. He and his parents were also living there when Owen died (24 June 1950).

According to his S.S. application (#343-28-1279), his name is Charles Winfield Thake and his father's name is Winfield C. T. Thake. I do not know what the "T" means. Charles (Chuck) was born in Covington in Kenton County, Kentucky. He signed his name "Chuck Thake". He (and his parents) were living at 204 E. John in Champaign, IL. Application was dated 26 Sep. 1951 when Chuck was only 13.

Chuck and parents were still living in Champaign, IL when his brother John was born (7 Nov. 1951).

He married Barbara Zweifel (-0G) in or a little before 1959 in St. Louis County, but I do not know exactly where.

A daughter (+1G) is born of W. Charles (Chuck) and first wife on 26 Dec. 1959 in St. Louis County.

The St. Louis County Directory of 1961 has Chas. W. Thake with his wife Barbara M. living at 1274 S. Rock Hill Rd. in Webster Groves and working as a salesman at Scruggs Dept. Store in Crestwood. Chuck and his wife at the time [Barbara] attended the funeral of his great uncle, John Mueller (-2G), who died on 29 Dec. 1961. At this time Chuck and his family were living in Columbia, MO.

Apparently Chuck was not married (was between marriages) when he came to the family dinner/celebration at Christmas 1962 at my parents' home.

Chuck married a second time in 1964.

The St. Louis County Directory of 1965 lists Chas. Thake Jr. living at 74 Van Mark Way in Brentwood, MO. No wife or occupation is included.

His mother died on 24 Mar. 1965 in St. Louis Cnty at the age of 54. She was buried on the 27th in the Thake lot at Valhalla Cemetery. At that time his parents and brother John were living at 314 Providence Rd. in Ballwin, St. Louis Cnty., MO. Chuck was probably married to his second wife at this time. I do not know where they were living.

The 1966 County Dir. shows Charles Thake Jr. with a home at 74 Van Mark Way in Brentwood.

His father remarried to Nellie Louis Cooper (nee Minear) on 19 Feb. 1966 in the Kansas City, MO area.

Chuck and his second wife divorced in Aug. 1968 in Los Angeles, CA.

He married a third time in 1970.

He and his third wife have a son and Chuck adopts his step son from the first marriage of his wife.

The St. Louis County Dir. of 1971 shows W. Charles Thake living at 10023 Willdan Dr. in LY (Lemay?), Apartment C. No wife or occupation is listed.

A son (+1G) is born of W. Charles (Chuck) and third wife in 1972 in St. Louis County.

There is no Thake listing in the 1972-73 County Dir. The St. Louis County Directories of 1974 and 1975 list Winfield [Chuck] Thake, with his third wife, living at 1278 Enderbury Dr. in Lemay, MO. No occupation is included.

Chuck died on 8 May 1977 in St. Louis Cnty. He left a widow, a daughter and two sons. The cause of death was contributed to by an enlarged heart. His obituary was in the p. 9 C of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch of 10 May 1977. In the obit. he was called a grandson, son-in-law, nephew, cousin, father, son, brother, and husband.

In this obit. his parents and brother are named. His sons are mentioned but not his daughter, for some unknown reason. The parents of his wife were still alive as was his paternal step-grandmother. Funeral was at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois in Affton, St. Louis Cnty., MO on Wed. 11 May 1977 at 1 PM. Interment was in the Thake family lots (lots 154-55, section 4), Valhalla Cemetery. In the obit. his current wife's maiden surname is given.
