In the church records from the Grafenhausen area, her last name has the umlaut over the "a" and the "enum." is not included.

Emilie married Fridolin Thoma on 05 Feb. 1874 at the catholic church of Grafenhausen, Bonndorf, Waldshut, Baden. It is recorded in the Kirchenbuch of the Katholische Kirche of Grafenhausen (A. Bonndorf), 1639-1900. This is available on a Latter Day Saints microfilm, IGI batch M950322, years 1830-85, source call 0938923 (p. 222). She was 33 years old. It was Fridolin's second marriage.

They then lived in Fridolin's town: Altenschwand, also in Waldshut, Baden.

Probably Emilie helped in her husband's "Hirschen" guesthouse/inn in Altenschwand.

Here is a picture of the Hirschen Inn, outside, as it is in August 2004. Click this thumbnail to enlarge.

They had a child, my grandfather Emil (-2G), on 29 Oct. 1874 in Altenschwand.

According to the book Familiengeschichte der Gemeinde Rickenbach, Emilie, her husband, and step-son Leo arrived in Ann Arbor, MI on 4 Oct. 1880. According to the same book, her step children Otto, Kundigunde and Rosina came to the U.S. on 12 Feb. 1881. I have not found the passenger lists.

Her son Emil emigrated from Grafenhausen in 1892 (according to the Baden Emigration Index). Perhaps he moved to Grafenhausen after his parents and step siblings emigrated. There were probably relatives of his mother living there.

I have not yet found a record of Emilie living in the U.S. There are two entries (1886 and 1895) for Fridolin Thoma in the St. Louis City Directory. There is no mention of Emilie in these directory listings.

I have not found 1900 and 1910 Census entries for either Fridolin or Emilie.

However, Fridolin may have lived until ca. 05 Oct. 1910. The lot of Otto Thoma in New Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis County has a grave for an 80 year old Friedolin Thoma. This is most likely Emilie's husband. That lot and that cemetery do not have a grave for Emilie. I do not know when she died or where she was buried.

---------------------------

There was an Emilie Jaeger who lived in Chicago in 1880.
There was also an Emilie Jaeger, b. 17 Jan. 1901, d. 1 Feb. 2000, who lived in St. Louis.
There are still Jäger families in Grafenhausen but I do not know if they are related.
