The (-1G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma.

According to the S. S. application his middle name was Joseph.

The 1920 Census in Missouri (vol. 98, district 249, sheet 7) list him, his parents and sister. They are living in their own house at 4501 Idaho Ave. in St. Louis. The father, Frederick is 31, born in California. The father's mother was born in Missouri; his father in Switzerland. He is listed as a merchant who owns a grocery store. Fred Jr.'s mother, Emma, is also 31 years old, born in Missouri. Fred Jr. is 7 years old, born in Missouri, and his sister Marie is 2 years old, also born in Missouri.

The 1930 Fed. Census for Missouri (T626_1235, enum. dist. 96-481, supv. dist. 9, printed page 237, sheet 9A, lines 27-30, house 135, family 242, dated April 7) show Emma and her family living at 4501 Virginia in St. Louis (ward 13, block 2697). Emma is 41 years old, born in Missouri, with parents born in Germany. She was married at age 21 and has two children. She is not in school but can read, write, and speak English. There is no listed occupation for Emma. Her husband, Fred, is 42, was born in California of a father born in Switzerland and a mother born in Missouri. He is not in school but can read, write, and speak English. He was married at age 22. His occupation is manager at a grocery store. He was not a war veteran. They own their house which is valued at $30,000. It is not a farm. Their son, Fred, is 18 years old, was born in Missouri of a father born in California and a mother born in Missouri. He is attending school and can read, write, and speak English. No occupation is listed for him. Emma's daughter Marie is 13 years old, born in Missouri of a father born in California and a mother born in Missouri. She is in school and can read, write, and speak English. She has no occupation. The family has a radio set.

The 1936 St. Louis City Dir. has Fredk (Emma) Marty, grocer at 4501 Virginia Ave., with a home at the same address. These are the parents; Fred Jr. (-1G) is probably still living with them (see next paragraph).

When he applied for Social Security on 08 June 1937, he was living with his parents and sister at 4501a Virginia Ave. and was working at the Fred Marty Grocery & Meat Co., 4501 Virginia. He was 25 years old and his birthdate and birthcity were given. His full name, father's full name, and mother's name were also given.

The 1937 St. Louis Directory has Fred Marty Jr. pres. of Assoc. Grocers of St. Louis, living at 4501 Virginia. However I do not know if that refers to the father or son.

He married on 04 Oct. 1938 in St. Louis. She was 26 and was living at 6305a Virginia; he was also 26 and was living at 4501 Virginia. They were married by a catholic priest, the Rev. George Dreher (or Dieher?) who gave the address 3880 Meramec. [Were they married at St. Anthony R. C. Church which is on Meramec?] (application 382247; license 132, page 324.)

The St. Louis Directory of 1939 lists Fred Marty as manager of Fred Marty (grocery store?) and living at 3651 Duncan Ave.

The Marty family (son or father?) had a club house at Keefers.

No Fred Marty is in the 1941 County Dir. The 1942 St. Louis Dir. lists Fred J. Marty with a home at 6045 Landsdowne. The 1946 City Dir. shows Fred J. Marty II, supervisor, with a home at 6045 Landsdowne.

According to the Marty grave monument in Sunset Memorial Park his father died 01 Jan. 1947. There is, however, another Fred Marty in St. Louis who died ca 1965.

The 1949 County Dir. (Polk) has a Fred Marty living at 10 Midview Airport Township 26. The St. Louis County Directory of 1961 lists Fred Marty living at 115 E. Etta Ave. in Lemay.The St. Louis County Directory of 1965 shows Fred J. Marty, manager of Salpan Inc., living in St. Louis, MO. The same directory has him living at 115 E. Etta Ave. in Lemay. This directory has an Albina Marty, wife of Fred J. Marty, living in St. Louis (city). No Fred Marty appears in the 1966 St. Louis County Dir. The County Dir. of 1970 has Fred J. (no wife listed) Marty living at 4347 Chateau de Ville Dr., Apt. G in Mehlville, MO.

One source gives the death of his sister, Marie, as 30 Jan. 1971 but the grave monument in Sunset Memorial Park gives the 10th.

The 1971 and the combined issue of 1972-73 County Dir. has the same information as in 1970. The 1974 County Dir. lists Fred J. Marty (no wife or occupation given) with a home at 4347 Chateau DeVille Dr. (Mehlville) Apt G. The St. Louis County Directory of 1975 lists Fred J. Marty, a salesman for Midwest Co., living at 4347 Chateau De Ville Dr., Apt. G in Mehlville, MO. The 1976 County Dir. lists Fred J. L. Marty, salesman at Midwest Sup., with a home at 4347 Chateau DeVille Dr. in Mehlville, Apt G.

His mother, Emma, died on 9 Jul. 1980 and was buried in Sunset Memorial Park in St. Louis.

His S.S.# is 498-09-8609.  The S. S. Death Index gives his death 16 Oct. 1992.  His last residence was in St. Louis County zip code 63129.

The St. Louis Pub. Lib. Obituary Index gives the obit. date 20 Oct. 1992.  Maybe that is his burial or funeral date. He was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, I believe. His wife is still living (as of Nov. 2002).
