John was originally named Johann Kristmann. He was born in 1877 in Modes, Hungary of German ethnicity.
He married Catherine Divo in Hungary, probably before Aug. 1901. Their son Andrew was born on 02 May 1901/2 in Hungary. The IGI record on www.familysearch.org gives 1901 and Andrew's S. S. record gives 1902.
He immigrated on 17 June 1907 at Ellis Island, New York on the ship S. S. Cambroman which left Antwerp, Belgium on 30 May 1907. Johann (John) was 30 years old and was marked as married, yet he was traveling alone. He was classed as a laborer and citizen of Hungary. His destination was St. Louis, MO where he had a friend. John was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, dark complected, with brown eyes and hair and a scar on the left cheek. He was in good physical condition and not lame or crippled.
His wife would have had to immigrate before Johanna's birth.
His daughter Johanna was born in St. Louis on 21 Dec. 1909/10.
His son immigrated in 1911 and married Helen Hambrecht ca. 1925.
In the 1935 St. Louis Directory we find John Kristmann, barber, and Catherine, who is his wife. We also see his daughter, Johanna B. Kristmann, prsfdr (press feeder) at Ralston Purina Co., r 4400 S. Broadway.
His daughter Johanna married our uncle Albert Thoma (-1G) on 29 May 1937 in St. Louis, MO. At this time Johanna and her parents were living at 4400 S. Broadway.
His daughter Johanna (-1G) died 06 Aug. 1940 and was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, St. Louis. Her death certificate lists her parents and say that they were from Austria. Actually they were from Hungary but that was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the time.
He died only five days (ca 11 Aug.) after his daughter Johanna died. He was also buried in Sunset Memorial Park, in the same lot (section 12, lot 232) as his daughter. There are no individual gravestones on the lot but there is a large monument with the name Kristmann; three people are named on each of the two sides of this monument.
| Here is the grave site for John Krismann in Sunset Memorial Park, section 12, lot 232. He is buried next to his wife and son. On the other side of the monument are buried his daughter and in-laws. |

The 1930 Census for Missouri (supv. dist. 9, enum. dist. 96-437, sheet 17B, dwelling 248, family 358, lines 78-80, dated 11Apr.) shows the family of Andrew Kristmann living in St. Louis, ward 11, block 2707, at 2734 Wyandotte St. where they are renting for $30/month. Andrew is 28, married at age 22. He was born in Germany, his parents also. His native tongue was German and he immigrated in 1911 but has the "Na" status at the time of the Census. He is a salesman. His wife, Helen, is 23 and was married at age 18. She and her parents were born in Illinois. Their son, John, is 3 years old. Also living there is Marry [Mary?] Cardin, 54 years old, married at age 25 the first time, who is identified as Andrew's mother. Could Mary be the mother-in-law of Andrew?
John's wife Catherine died in October 1940 and was also buried in the same lot in Sunset Memorial Park.
His son Andrew died on 25 Jan. 1977 according to the IGI record on www.familysearch.org but the S. S. Death Index has the year 1978 instead.
