  • Included on the chart of Fridolin's First Family

Born before Kunigunde were the following siblings: Otto (b. 23 July 1864), and Leo (b. 3 Apr. 1866). The Kunigunde of this page was perhaps named after her mother's sister or her father's sister.

    --------------------

The records in the Rickenbach church report Kunigunde's birth and baptism. Rickenbach is the larger town next to Altenschwand and serves as its administration center. Her baptism was on 25 Feb. 1868. The godparents were Stephan Thoma (-3G) (brother of her father) and Kunigunde Schmid (-3G) (sister of her mother). See pictures of the Rickenbach church on the Altenschwand page.

Here is a picture of the Hirschen Inn (Gasthof) in Altenschwand (taken in August 2004). Kunigunde and her siblings were born there; her parents were the owners.
Here is another view (dining rooms) of the Hirschen (Stag) Inn in Altenschwand as it is in 2001.

After Kunigunde's birth there were two sisters born: Bertha (17 Nov. 1869) and Rosina (10 Apr. 1871).

Her mother died on 22 Dec. 1871 in Altenschwand?

Her father remarries to Emilie Jaeger (-3G) on 05 Jan. 1874 in Grafenhausen, Baden.

Here is a picture of the school house in Altenschwand (as it appeared in August 1902?) where Kunigunde went to elementary school from about 1874 to whenever she graduated or moved to Grafenhausen. Part of the building (or the small building seen in the rear) was used for the city hall.
Here is a picture of the same school house as it appears today (in summer of 2004). The building is owned by the Altenschwand community and the upstairs is rented out for living space. There is also an attic that has a large storage area. The building is no longer used as a city hall (the rear building seems to be gone).
Here is another picture of the school house as it appears today (summer of 2004). This is the rear view.

Her half-brother, Emil Thoma (-2G), is born in Altenschwand on 29 Oct. 1874.

Her sister, Bertha Thoma (-2G), died on 17 May 1875.

According to the Altenschwand church record for the family, Kunigunde emigrated with her brother Otto and sister Rosa after obtaining a permit on 12 Feb. 1881. Her father, step-mother, and brother Leo had emigrated in 1880. According to the same record, they came to Ann Arbor, Michigan.

After the emigration note in the church family record, there is no further information on Kunigunde. Any marriage or death information is not recorded there. Without having the passenger list I cannot verify that she actually did come to the U.S. Maybe she and her sister changed their minds. Although the brothers are listed in the Baden Emigration Index, Kunigunde, her sister and parents are not listed. However I have evidence that her father did settle in St. Louis and was buried there.

I do not know if she married and had children. I do not know when and where she died.

    ---------------------

Her father died 05 Oct. 1910 in St. Louis and was buried in New Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis County, Missouri.

Her brother Otto died ca. 31 May 1930 and was buried in the same cemetery lot. Her brother Leo died in 1939 in Kansas City, MO.

Her half-brother Emil died 29 Oct. 1948 in St. Louis, MO and was cremated. Her sister Rosina died 04 July 1959 in Oberibach, Baden.

I do not know when and where her step-mother died.
