St. Louis, MO

External links about the church:

First German Congregational Church is not to be confused with First Congregational Church which is the oldest Congregational church in St. Louis. The latter church dates from 1852, when it was at 10th and Locust. It moved to Grand and Delmar and then to 6501 Wydown where it is still located today. Because of a merger in 2003 it is now called First Trinity Congregational Church.

First German Congregational Church was located on Garfield Ave. at the southwest corner of Spring Ave. This is in the Grand Prairie section of St. Louis which is bounded by Grand, St. Louis Ave., Kingshighway, and Delmar. The church was one block west of Grand and one block south of Humboldt Park. Today the street address would be ca. 3700 Garfield in Zip Code 63113. First German Congregational was organized on 25 June 1885. The Rev. Martin Krey was the pastor in 1896-98 at least. The Rev. George Horst was the pastor in 1910 at least. The church closed in 1910.

The successor to First German Cong. Church, at the same location, was Garfield Congregational Church, which functioned at least from 1020-25. In 1925 at least, the ministers were the Rev. Niel Nissen and the Rev. William H. Dorn. Today there are homes on the site which are obviously newer than any of the surrounding homes.
