The (-1G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma.

A sibling was born before Martha, in 1902.  Martha and Severin were twins. Martha Ricklin was probably named after her maternal grandmother, Martha Teichgräber, although she could have also been named after her maternal aunt, Martha Winge, who met an early death (1880). Her nickname was "Maude".

The 1910 Fed. Census Soundex for Missouri (104 0206 0328) has Martha Ricklin living at 4404 13th St. South in St. Louis.  Her mother (and head of household) Hedwig is 32, born in Germany.  One child is 8, born in Missouri; our Martha is 5, born in Missouri; and a son George, is also 5, born in Missouri.  The actual Census says Hedwig had four children but 3 are living. It says they have been married 10 years.  Her parents are from Germany. The inclusion of a son named George is confusing but one of her offspring told me that George was a Swiss baker who worked for them in their bakery and lived with them for a time. It is said that George made fancy confections and bake goods but these were not so popular with the local patrons who preferred the stollens and breads. It is also strange that Martha's twin brother is not listed.

Her father died at age 52 on (19 Jan. 1919). Her mother never married again. At this time the family was living at 4403 or 4403a Virginia Ave. in St. Louis The obituary shows that all four of their children were living.

Here is a group picture taken at the Winge house (on 17th St. near Spring Ave?). in St. Louis, MO. Wilhelm Winge is the man in the front row, seated on the bench, just to our left of the little table. Picture was taken sometime between 1910 and 1913. Martha Ricklin is the young girl on our far right. Her father is seated behind the pitcher and glasses on the little table. Her twin brother Severin is the young boy, second on the left.

Here is a picture of the buildings at 4401 and 4403 Virginia Ave. (at Osceola) taken before 1919 I think. The Severin Bakery, downstairs on the left, is the one owned by Erhart Severin and Hedwig. The corner saloon was owned by Emma, and her husband Fred Marty. Other Winge people lived in apartments built above the saloon and in a building on the lot behind the saloon and to the left of the bakery.
Here is a recent picture of the buildings at 4401 and 4403 Virginia Ave. as they looked at the beginning of 2002, much as they looked decades ago when various Winge families occupied them. The living quarters are upstairs. The corner store was once a bakery-deli owned by Hedwig Winge and her husband.
Here is a picture of Martha (seated with glasses) and her husband (on our far left) and other relatives at a restaurant , perhaps celebrating the birthday of her mother, Hedwig Winge (seated in the middle). Picture was taken before 1963 at the Lemmons Restaurant in MO. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
Here is the Baker Family lot stone in Sunset memorial Park, St. louis, MO. This is on lot 196 in section 24. Martha's grave is on the right. The stone gives the birth and death dates of her and her husband. Picture was taken in 2002.

I have not found the 1920 and 1930 Census for Martha. I assume that in 1920 the family was living at 4403a Virginia. She married William Lane Baker, probably before 1928. Shad only one child.

She died on 10 Aug. 1968 according to descendants and the lot stone. She was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, St. Louis, in section 24, lot 196. Her husband died after her, in 1972 and is buried in the same lot. Her three siblings also died after her. She had only one child.

The Social Security Death Index reveals many Martha Baker's who applied in Missouri. None of them have the above birth date, therefore I am assuming that our Martha never had a Social Security card.
