The (-2G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma.

Before Oliver was born there were two siblings born: an unnamed child in 1895 (or 96); and another unnamed child in 1896 (or 97). Before Oliver was born the above two unnamed children died, one ca 26 Aug. 1896 and the other on 8 July 1897. They were buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis County.

    -----------------------------------

His middle initial probably represents Christopher after his father. It was seen in the St. Louis Birth Registry (11 Aug. 1898). When Oliver was born his family was living at 3861 Garfield in St. Louis. According to the Register, both parents were born in St. Louis.

This picture shows children of Christopher and Josephine Vossler. Oliver may be one of the children (the oldest, on our left?). The other children may be Irene (on our right) and Eugene (the youngest, in the chair). The picture was probably taken in St. Louis ca. late 1902. Click thumbnail to enlarge.

The St. Louis Directories of 1898-1900 list Oliver's father as a plumber living at 3861 Garfield Ave.

I have not been able to find the family in the 1900 Census but they would be living at the same address.

The St. Louis Directories of 1901 and 1902 list Christopher as a plumber living at 3861 (or 3861a) Garfield Ave. Christopher is not listed after 1902 because he died 22 Dec. 1902 in St. Louis, MO His widow (Oliver's mother, Josephine) is listed in the 1903 and 1904 Directories, living at 3869 [sic! 3861a?] Garfield.

Oliver's mother remarried to William J. McLaren (-3G) on/after 15 July 1905 in St. Louis, MO.

There is an obit. in St. Louis Post-Dispatch on 5 Oct. 1905 (p. 20) for an Oliver Vosler. Could this be our Oliver? He died on the 4th at age 7 years, 1 month, 23 days. He died of typhoid fever. The furneral was from the family residence [3861 Garfield?]. (But he died at 3164 Brantner Place near the doctor's office) His parents names are given, including his mother's maiden surname. [Note that William McLaren was his step father.] Although the last part of the obituary is hard to read, it appears that Oliver was interred in Bethania Cemetery on the 6th.

    -----------------------------------

Oliver's brother Theodore (-2G) died ca 9 Feb. 1910 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery.

There was another Oliver Vossler in St. Louis who died 8 Mar. 1896 and was living at 2316 N. Market, the same address as a Stella Vossler who may have been his wife.

His step father William McLaren died before 1930. His mother Josephine and brother Eugene moved to California before 1930. His mother died after 1930.

His sister Irene may have died early. His brother Eugene lived until 01 Oct. 1983.
