The (-2G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma. - - - - - before her birth - - - - - Her mother, Lula Florence, was born on 09 Jul. 1896 in Hoosier Township, Clay Cnty., IL. to Carey Wesley Jennings and Maggie Baird. Her father, John Winge, was born on 21 Nov. 1892 in St. Louis to Wilhelm and Martha Winge. Lula and John Winge married in Hoosier Twsp., Clay Co., Illinois on 31 Jul. 1916. The 1916 St. Louis City Dir. has John A. Winge, electrician, residing at 4403a Virginia. The 1918 Dir. has John A. Winge, electrician, with a home at 4409 Virginia Ave. At the time of the 1920 Census for St. Louis, MO (vol. 108, e. district 283, sheet 3, line 100) Irma's parents are living at 2821 Shenandoah. Her father, John, is 27 years old and her mother is 23 years old. She was born in Illinois. The children were not yet born. Their first child was born in 1921 in St. Louis, MO. The St. Louis City Directory of 1922 lists John A. Winge, electrician, living at 2821a Shenandoah. Around 1922 they moved to Mississippi.Their second child, Irma Winge (-1G) was born on 16 Dec. 1922 in Jackson, Miss. The Jackson, MS city directories for the years 1922-24 and 1926 are either not available or not published. The 1925 Jackson Dir. does not list any Winge families. John does not appear in the 1926 and 1927 St. Louis Directories. The 1927/28 Jackson Dir. has John Wingo [sic!] with wife Florence and 2 children, foreman at Koeneman Elec. Co., living at or in West End Acres. The 1929-30 Jackson Dir. has John A. Winge with wife Florence and 2 children, vice-president of Koeneman Elec. Co. Inc., home at 723 S. James. The 1930 Jackson Dir. has John A. Winge with wife L. Florence and 2 children, vice-pres. of Koeneman Electric, home at 374 S. Arbor Vista. The 1930 Census for Mississippi (T626_1147, supv. dist. 8, enum. dist. 25-18, sheet 15B, lines 56-59, dated 10 April) shows Lula F., her husband and two daughters living at 374 Arbor Vista in ward 11 of Jackson (city) of Hinds County (house visited 299, family 386). Lula is 33 years old born in Illinois of a father born in Illinois and a mother born in Kentucky. She was married at age 20. She is not in school but reads, writes, and speaks English. She has no occupation. Her husband, John A. Winge, is 37 years old, born in Missouri of German parents. He was married at age 23. He is not in school but reads, writes, and speaks English. He is working as an electrician for an electric company. He was not a war veteran. They own the house which is valued at $3,500. Their one daughter is 8, born in Missouri and the other, Irma, is 7, born in Mississippi; they are both in school. - - - - - from her birth (June 1931) until her death (Jul. 1976) - - - - - Shirley Winge (-1G) was born on 17 June 1931 in Jackson(?), Miss. The Jackson, MS city directories for 1931 and 1933-35 are either not available or not published. The 1932 Jackson Dir. lists John A. Winge, with wife L. Florence and 3 children, vice-pres. at Koeneman Elec. Co., home at 347 S. Arbor Vista.
Her father was mentioned in the obituary of his mother, ca 3 Apr. 1944 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I have a postcard from Martha (Ricklin?) to Adeline E. Winge (sister to Lula's husband), dated 10 Jan. 1946 stating that she (Martha) visited Mississippi but did not get the chance to visit Johnny. This must refer to Lula's husband since he is the only John in the immediate family of Adeline. Shirley's father, John A. Winge, died in 1946 at the Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield, Miss., 13 miles from Jackson. He was buried in Cedarlawn Cemetery in Jackson, Miss. Her S.S. # 427-18-1766 was issue in Mississippi before 1951.
Her first husband died or else they were divorced.
I do not know how many children, if any,resulted from these marriages. The death of her mother, Lula Florence Jennings, is on rootweb.com. The S. S. Death Index reports that her mother died in Nov. 1971 when her residence was Zip Code 77019 which is in Houston, Harris County, TX. Her death is also reported in the Texas Death Index, 1903-2000 db on Ancestry.Com. which gives the exact date 08 Nov. 1971 and says she was a widow. According to a living relative she was buried next to her husband in Cedarlawn Cemetery in Jackson, Miss. The S. S. Death index reports the death of Shirley's sister, Irma Henderson, as July 1976. Her last residence was in Mississippi. It says she was born on 16 Dec. 1922. Irma is buried in Ridgeland, Miss. according to a living relative. According to Shirley's obituary [see below], she lived in Eugene, Oregon (probably when married to Mr. Morgan. The U.S. Phone & Address Directory db on Ancestry.Com lists her in Brookshire, Texas from 1998. No male with the surname Morgan is found in the Texas Death Index db on Ancestry.Com which suggests he either died in Eugene, Oregon or he was still living as of 2000. Shirley's death is in the S. S. Death Index as Shirley W. [Winge] Morgan on 25 Oct. 2002. She was born on 17 June 1931. Her last residence was Zip 77423 which is Brookshire, Waller County, Texas. There is a death notice and obituary in the 12 Nov. 2002 Register-Guard newspaper from Eugene, Oregon. This reference says she was 71 years old and was living in Brookshire, Texas but formerly living in Eugene. It gives her parents' names and her birth date. -------------------- Some information came from a daughter-in-law of a sister. Some came from Ancestry.Com. Their children are unknown to me at this time. Her sister Irma married a Carl Henderson Jr. Children are unknown. She and her husband lived in Mississippi. Irma died in July 1975 and was buried in Ridgeland, Miss. The sibling born in 1921 is still living as of Sept. 2006.
