Anthony Heald was born in New Rochelle, New York, on August 25, 1944.
He is a
graduate of Michigan State University and is an accomplished stage, film,
and television actor. Anthony was nominated for Tony Awards for his
performances in Anything Goes and Love! Valour! Compassion!.
Performances in The Foreigner,
Henry V, Digby, and
Quartermaine's
Terms earned him Obie Awards.
His stage career spans more than 35 years, performing in plays written
by Shaw, Pinter and Shakespeare. Film appearances include Silence
of the Lambs, opposite Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins, as Dr.
Chilton, the psychiatrist. He also appeared in the screen adaptations of
John Grisham's A Time to Kill, The Pelican Brief, and The
Client.
After appearing in The Silence of the Lambs, Heald was often typecast
as a villain on screen; however, thanks to David E. Kelley this may change.
Kelley created a character on his new show Boston Public specifically
for Heald. He portrays Scott Guber the stern vice principal of the fictional
Winslow High. Mr. Guber demands respect and spends most of the day making
sure things run smoothly. The students and staff most often see the
stern "get down to business" side of the character, while the audience
begins to see the vulnerable man underneath. Since the show began airing
in late October 2000, it has quickly drawn attention and ratings numbers
for Fox and Kelley.
The character was actually created by Kelley for Heald after Heald made
a guest appearance on Kelley's hit show The Practice. Observations
of what the critics and fans are saying indicate that Heald's character
has quickly become a favorite.
Heald has not only appeared on stage and screen, but he can also be heard
on a number of audio books ranging from the Science Fiction stronghold
Star
Wars to Dean Koontz's Dark Rivers of the Heart and the children's
classic
Where the Red Fern Grows. Heald's voice is pleasant
and enjoyable to listen to and he does a remarkable job in using his voice
to distinguish between characters.
