Teamsters Local # 549 is affilliated with The International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Our Local has been in existence since April 1, 1943.
Our office is located at 2857 Highway 11-W, Blountville, TN 37617.

Our monthly meetings are held the second Saturday in each month.
(meetings are suspended June, July, & August due to vacations)
Executive Board Meetings are held at 9:00 A.M.
General Membership meetings are at 10:00 A.M. at the Local Union hall.

RETIREE CLUB:
Local # 549 has the largest retiree chapter in the state of Tennessee. They meet every few months at the Outdoorsman Club located on 11W a few miles from the Local, with a luncheon. Each individual brings a covered dish and a canned food item for the food pantry. Please contact Mr. Wayne Boeker, President, for information on joining the retirees chapter @ (423) 543-4222. Who We Represent
Todays members include truck drivers, dock workers, warehouse empoyees, health care workers, plant laborers, and more!! The companies currently represented by Teamsters Local # 549 are as follows: ABF Freight Systems, BlueLinx Corporation, Bristol Metals, Holliston Mills, Interstate Brands Co (Merita), Land-O-Sun Dairies (Pet), Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Roadway Express, Superior Carriers, Inc., UPS, and Yellow Freight Systems. ASK THESE EMPLOYEES WHAT THE TEAMSTERS HAVE DONE FOR THEM!

Your Rights, Under the Law
To protect workers from the illegal tactics many employers use to stop workers from organizing, the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) gives workers rights:
*The right to join or help organize a union without being harassed or punished by your employer.
*The right to have metings at lunchtime or breaktime in non-work areas on company property, without being harassed or punished by your employer.
*The right to talk about the union,distribute union materials, or ask co-workers to join the union, on non-work time in non-work areas.
*The right to go to union meetings and wear union buttons without interference from your boss or supervisors.
*The right to hold demonstrations and rallies about the union or about work problems

YOUR EMPLOYER MAY NOT:
*Fire, discipline, lay you off, or cut your hours for supporting the union.
*Spy, or pretend to spy, on union activities.
*Threaten or question you about the union.
*Grant or promise special favors to employees to vote against the union.
*Deny you the right to vote for the union.
*Pressure you not to join a union
Why do employers fight so hard to keep the Unions out? The employer knows that a Union provides a balance of power between the employyes and the employer. The employer knows that the Union brings skills and experience to the bargaining table that improve the employees chances of obtaining fair wages, better working conditions, and good benefits. The employers do not want to meet you on an even playing field.
