Our Tennessee Chapters and Elected/Appointed Officers
We have met the enemy and IT IS US
I am ashamed to have to say it and admit that we Veterans are our own worst enemies. Consider these points and see if they apply to you and your friends:
Do you keep up with what our Elected Officials are doing in Washington and Nashville concerning our Active Duty and Veteran Brethren?
Do you write or email your Elected Officials to let them know which way they should vote in your opinion on pending legislature concerning Active Duty and Veteran matters?
Do you belong to all of the National Veterans Organizations that you are eligible to belong to? Remember that just belonging increases their clout with our Elected Officials.
Do you also actively do everything possible to recruit members for these Veteran’s Organizations?
Do you when you attend the monthly meeting of the Veteran’s Organizations that you belong to do as much as you can?
When you attend these meetings, do you personally greet the other veterans there with a kind word and greeting?
Do you attempt to find out what fellow members might be undergoing medical or personnel hardships and see if you or fellow members can be of assistance?
Do you talk down about fellow members behind their backs and belittle them or work against them behind their backs?
Do you talk down, make fun of, call disrespectful names or belittle other veterans that did not serve in your military conflict, branch of service, or occupational specialty or ever let this attitude show? (e.g. support troops if your service was in a combat arms specialty)
Do you talk down or belittle current active duty military receiving a medal that was hard won for you?
Do you embellish your military resume or military service?
If you are elected to a leadership position, do you consider the desires of the membership or do you dictate the ways that things will be conducted or done?
If you are elected to a leadership position or as a member, do you remember that there is a Constitution and By-Laws and follow it?
Do you have and keep your Constitution and By-Laws of the Veterans Organizations that you belong to updated and periodically read and understand them?
If you are elected to a leadership position, do you amply congratulate, reward and recognize your fellow hard working members?
Do you adequately volunteer your time and services to the Veterans Organizations that you belong to?
Do you adequately volunteer your time and services to assist Active Duty Military and Veterans in need?
Remember but that for the Grace of God, it could be you!
