Time for the Detail !
Now you can get out that pattern that you traced and transfer the details on to your painted surface.
Line up the tracing to match the painted area.
If the piece is big enough you can tape the pattern down to keep it from shifting on you.
If it's small you will have to carefully hold it in place while you trace
.Once you have the tracing in place, slide the graphite between the tracing and the wood.{remember..the right side down!} Take your stylus and lightly trace the details , keyword here is "lightly".
Because you have taken the time to trace your pattern onto tracing paper,
if the pattern should slip you'll be able to reposition it easily.
Just remove the graphite paper and align your pattern once more,
the lines that you transferred will show through the tracing paper.
Only transfer the detail lines that you think you will need.
Some people are more comfortable "free-handing" than others, only you know how many of the lines you need.
Graphite lines have to be covered over with paint or removed at the end of your painting.
For this reason it's a good idea to trace as lightly as you can.
Once graphite has paint on it it has to have enough to cover it. It can not be removed.
Graphite lines that are outside of a painted area will come off with mineral spirits, or a very light rubbing with an eraser.
Be certain that your paint is completely dry before you begin to use graphite.
It makes an awful mess if you put graphite onto wet paint, believe me,
I think we have all pushed too soon in this area.
