Inside Passage 02: Other Boats

To state the obvious, we saw a lot of other boats during our voyage. The sheer size of the cruise ships surpassed anything I imagined.
We also met some interesting people along the way. While we were at Shearwater, we noticed a nice trawler that listed Santa Cruz as its home port. It turns out that Bill Raney, is the original founder of the Nickelodeon Movie Theatre in Santa Cruz. "The Nick" is a Santa Cruz institution. When Bill sold the theatre, he bought "Sheer Folly," the trawler on which he cruises the Inside Passage waters. We did not get a picture of his rig, but we certain enjoyed meeting him.

The Cape Mark in Ketchikan provided the Tonie O with considerable extra protection from passing wake, and with some good stories as well. We took a tour and learned that more than three C-Dories will fit in this vessel's hold.

This monument in Prince Rupert is to the Kazu Maru, a graceful Japanese fishing vessel that drifted across the Pacific Ocean after the disappearance of its owner, in the 1980's. As a strange and touching coincidence, the owner/skipper was from Prince Rupert's sister-city, Owase in Japan.

Shawn and I were impressed with this Daigle Eaglecraft, "Yellow Dog" that we found in Campbell River. The interior was custom done in exactly the way we would do it, if we were to move on to another boat.
