For us, travel is primarily an adventure, a chance to broaden our world, an opportunity to meet people who live differently from us, an experience that keeps us from taking what we have for granted and for appreciating and understanding the level and results of poverty, poor education, and bad government. We also have been able to savor the beauty of this world, the various ways that people express their spirituality and religious feeling through customs, art and architecture. We also love to visit the remnants of human history from sites of ancient China to Mesopotamia to expired Mayan and Incan settings. This is truly an amazing world to experience from so many perspectives.
But- we also have lots of fun on our trips unrelated to personal growth. We also play, we succumb to touristy undertakings, we do things we would probably never do at home. That's what this page is all about. These photos are a small example of such activities. Enjoy! We do.

Sometimes it's fun to treat yourself to touristy things.
You can live in the lap of far more luxury in theThird
World than you can in the United States.
You just need to remember that the average Thai
does not live this way. We try not to overdo it.

There is only one way to experience Vietnam like
the Vietnamese do. We took a moped ride to
Hoi An over dirt roads alongside hundreds of
other mopeds. That got us real close to the people.
Sometimes, it was a little too close.

Camels have to be the most
uncomfortable animals in the
world. Bev is not happy.

Part of the fun of travel is the continued enjoyment of artifacts we
bring home with us. We did not really intend to buy this rug we
are sitting on but after tea and sweets and an hour or so of
salesmanship, it now sits in our livingroom and we really love it.

Monks and priests, shamans and magicians
are abundant throughout the world. They
are among the most interesting folks to visit.
They have helped us understand the life of the spirit.

Sometimes travel experiences are also life markers. A surprise
party for Stan's 69th birthday held in a tent on a Maharajah's field in Bhil Tribal Area of India
was one such event.

We usually make a point of participating in whatever
ceremonies or activities we are asked to join. That has
helped us leave the role of observer, at least for a while.

Meeting people is probably the single most wonderful
thing about traveling in the Third World. Here
is Bev with a Zamburu Chief . Bev is the one on the left.

Ho Chi Minh apparently sat
right where I am in this picture.
Wouldn't he have been proud to
know he sat in the same chair
as I am in? Unquestionably.
