Trekking Along the Pacific Crest Trail Through Southern California

Trekking Along the Pacific Crest Trail Through Southern California

Description of the Book

Hal tells of his experience of trekking the ups and downs of the first 700 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, starting at the Mexican-California border on through to Kennedy Meadows in the southern Sierra.

In journal style, Hal tells about the feel of the tread, the wonderful views, the heat, the early season rains, thundershowers, and blizzards. Find out what the experience of the PCT imparts to the character of those fortunate to trek this wonderful trail.

Included is a mini-guide on identifying plants, where found, and of their use. Hal also offers a supplement on water carriage through the southern California area.

The narrative follows the PCT "sections" as laid out in the "Guidebook" by Schafer and Schifrin et al. telling of backpacking through thirteen mountain ranges, five national forests, six wilderness areas before reaching Kennedy Meadows.

The entire 2,658 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail is wondrous. The PCT enriches the lives of all who are fortunate to trek any part of the trail. Being connected to the trail - reading about it, working on it, walking on it, supporting it - connects one to it. Any of these connections cause one to become part of the lore of this mountainous trail from Mexico to Canada.
