Marston Sewage treatment works is a relatively modern sewage works situated alongside the river Witham about five miles NW of Grantham.
However by still employing some traditional methods as well as the modern,the area remains very attractive to birdlife, with large expanses of flooded meadows and man made settlement lagoons proving irresistable to local and migratory birds alike.
The works area itself comprises 16 large filter beds surrounded by mown grass, which attract large numbers of birds on a daily basis with the constant source of ' food ' .
The area around the site is mainly arable with turf and rough grass fields dominating.
A wader scrape has been constructed at the western end with a good quality timber hide on the banks for shelter.
A reed bed has also been planted and is now very mature.
All visitors please note that a car park is situated at the western tip of the reserve, and that the footpaths must be strictly adhered to as the surrounding farmland is strictly private
