Lapwing ( Vanellus vanellus )
On the 6th May 2001 a colour ringed Lapwing was present for most of the day, this bird was ringed as a pulli on 4th May 1999 at the Ouse Washes,RSPB reserve, it hadn't been seen since the 10th May 1999, so this is an important sighting of this bird as it is part of an ongoing study into the breeding success of Lapwings.

A second colour ringed lapwing was present from at least 3rd May 2002 and stayed on to breed, this bird was ringed as a nestling by the RSPB at Penllyn near Tywen, Gwynedd, Wales on the 22nd May 2000,

Common Redpoll ( Carduelis flammea flammea )
A single Common Redpoll has been present since the 20th December after being found by Alex Lees,it is usually with three Lesser Redpoll and can be found almost anywhere between the car park and the Sewage works, it was last reported on the 30th December in the willows by the works. This is the first reported sighting of this species at this site.

Siberian Chiffchaff ( Phylloscopus collybita tristis )
A chiffchaff showing characteristics of this race was observed by myself and A.Lees on the 23rd December, it showed extremely well for a short time but then dissapeared, it called constantly whilst we observed it, a sharp 'seeep' . I relocated it on the 30th December and identified it as a definite tristis, it showed well down to 15 feet , although it did not call on this occasion, It was still present on the 4th January 2002.
It is usually found in the hedgerow or around the concrete drain adjacent to the hedgerow, between the works and the bridleway that cuts across the reserve.

American Wigeon ( Anas americana )
An Adult drake of this species was found on the 12th January 2002 ( Barry Johnson ), it was located behind the scrape with a flock of about 300 Eurasion Wigeon. Although it doesn't look like a textbook Adult, mainly head colouring, the crown colour is a creamy yellow, and the eyestripe seems a little dark, often appearing a deep reddish in colour,but this was difficult to observe correctly in the bright sunlight. the cheeks are also more uniform with the rest of the breast, as opposed to being greyer and mottled. All other features seem ok, its structure being slightly more robust than Eurasion Wigeon. It does resemble the bird that has been frequenting Eyebrook Res in Leics recently.
