1. With white: Ch 4, sl st into ring. Ch 1, sc 10 times into ring. Join with sl st to first sc.
2. Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, sk next sc on previous round; sl st into next sc. Rep. around for 5 spokes of star. Sl st into beg sc. End off white.
3. With blue, join with sl st in left side of first sc and ch 2 (counts as first hdc); *dc in next st, trc in next st, dtr in sl st between points, trc in next, dc in next, hdc in next; continuing down left side of point, hdc in next st, rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. (35 sts). Note: when you are working up the right side of the spoke, you are working on the opposite side of a starting chain and you’ll just work into the bottom loops of the spoke (not actual stitches).
4. Ch 1, work one sc in first st, one sc in next st, and 2 sc in next st; rep. around ending last 2 sc repeat in joining space before first stitch (48 sc). Join with sl st.
5. Ch 5 (counts as first dtrc); work 2 dtrc in same sc; *skip one sc, work 3 trc in next sc; skip one sc, work 3 dc in next sc; skip 2 sc, work 3 dc in next sc; skip 1 sc, work 3 trc in next sc; skip 1 sc, work 3 dtrc, ch 3 in next sc; work 3 dtrc in next sc; rep from * around (end last rep with 3 dtrc, ch 1, hdc in top of beg ch 5).
6. Ch 3, work 2 more dc in same sp, continuing around square, work 3 dc in ea space between 3 stitch groups, and work 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in ea corner ch 3 space; end by working last corner as 3 dc, ch 3 and join to beg ch 3. End off.
7. With red, sl st in any corner sp, ch 3, work 2 more dc in same sp (counts as 3 dc); work 3 dc in ea sp around to corner; work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in corner; 3 dc in ea sp across to next corner; in next corner sp, work 3 dc. Ch 4, turn (counts as dc, ch 1).
8. Work 3 dc in ea sp across to corner; work corner (3 dc, ch 3, 3dc); 3 dc in ea sp across to next corner. End row by work ch 1, dc in last dc (top of beg ch 3). Drop red
and change to white.
9. With white, ch 3, work 2 more dc in sp; 3 dc in ea sp to next corner; work corner as before; 3 dc in ea sp across; end by working 2 dc in last sp and dc in top of last dc. Ch 4, turn.
10. Repeat row 8, changing to red at end of row.
Rows 11 thru 14: Repeat rows 7-10.
Rows 15 and 16: Repeat rows 7 and 8. End off.
