We have spent the past 15 years involved with some form of stock, street, strip,or road course competition. TechWest Racing Services has been involved with a ignition system manufacturer on a R/D project for the past 9 years to test all possible combinations of ignition systems available today.
With this background TechWest Racing Services has a question for you, Why do you go through the trouble of balancing and blueprinting your engine. OK, now why haven't you taken that same process and applied it to your ignition system the performance gains are there. With that said in the coming months we will introduce our strip kit for the serious competitor. This kit will include a matched coil, sparkplug wires, and sparkplugs designed to get all the performance out of your engine program.
Here at TechWestRacing Services we have identified seven failures that are commonly occuring in the MSD 6A and 6AL ignition boxes. This information has come to our attention over the last fifteen years of competition. These MSD box failures have been reported in all forms of racing. The MSD Ignition failures are sudden and without warning to the driver. The normal senerio is as follows; the vehicle is doing just fine, then without warning the engine is limited to 3500rpm to maybe 5600rpm. The throttle response is sluggish at best, and the engine acts as if it has just lost all of its performance.
Understand this is not the end of the world, we can help put your racing program back on track where it belongs. Any MSD ignition we have looked at, and that has shown the type of failure mentioned above. TechWest Racing Services has been able to repair the MSD box and return it to service. We also test every MSD Ignition system we work on before it is returned to the customer. This is to ensure your racing program getting back into full swing again as soon as possible.

We do ask that you drop us a quick note to give us a heads up so we can be looking for your box. Once your box arrives here at TechWest Racing Services we will troubleshoot your box so we can provide you with options to repair your failed MSD box.The normal repair charge for the above mentioned failure is $65.00 plus shipping charges. Anything above that will be charged at the normal shop rate of $28.00 an hour plus parts.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR MSD BOX FOR DAMAGE
For the customer who feels they have a failed MSD Ignition box, there is a simple test that TechWest Racing Services can walk you through to confirm a true failure.
First you will need a Volt/Ohm meter (this check can be performed with an analog or digital meter as well). The type of meter will not change the outcome of the test performed. Set your volt/ohm meter on the 1k ohms scale, then position the MSD box in appproximately the same orientation as mounted in the vehicle. This is done to ensure that the MSD box is relatively in the same position as when the failure occurred. Next take either lead and attach it to a bare metal area on the MSD box. The second lead needs to be hooked to the Large Red wire that provides your main 12vdc input. In an Undamaged MSD box the needle will stay in the home position (ie. max Ohms for scale chosen). A Damaged MSD box will show a reading of 3k ohms or lower.
The readings mentioned above are the result of our experience with repairing customers MSD Ignition boxes. If you plan on testing your MSD box while it is still mounted in your vehicle PLEASE remove the LARGE RED wire (ie. main 12vdc). Failure to do this will result in possibly damaging your meter.
