FUN STUFF I GET TO DO !
Believe it or not, I have fashioned a small theatre out of what was originally my downstairs living room in my restored, 1869 building in downtown Jefferson, Texas. I began my acting career once again in 1983 with a performance of "The Belle of Amherst" about the life of Emily Dickinson. Since the play was set in her living room, I thought, of course I could do the same! There is no theatre or community center in this small community and so - voila! - I did. I then decided to began writing my own one-woman plays and I have now written two, the most popular being the life of Texas pioneer woman, Harriet Potter Ames. I call it "Texian Woman" and it is a true and dramatic story of a woman who was called the "bravest woman in Texas" during the Republic of Texas Days. I also perform "Miss Lucy: A Memoir", the life of Lucy Holcomb Pickens, a beautiful southern belle who married a much older man, went to Russia to live in the 1850's when he as appointed ambassador there, was treated royally by the Czar and Czarina, and, after having a child, returned to America where her husband became Governor of South Carolina and she was later known as "Queen of the Confederacy" because of her generosity and beauty. She is also the only woman ever to have a picture on Confederate money! The women in these stories lived in the Jefferson area for many years and audiences enjoy hearing their stories of love and romance amid the battles and abandonment. I frequently travel with these shows as well as the musical vintage fashion shows that I do -- "Hubba,Hubba!" (all 40's); "Fashions With A Past" (1800's to 1980's); and others. I have been a four-time of the Texas Arts Commission Touring Artists Roster and have performed in various areas of Texas as well as the Ark-La-Tex. There are shows each Saturdays year around in the LIVING ROOM THEATRE but you must call ahead. Marcia will answer the phone ----that's me! You can also contact the Texas Arts Commission for information regarding grants to have a performance in your town - my motto is "Have shows -- Will travel!" BULLETIN: "Texian Woman" was performed by special request at the Ramsar Conference on Caddo Lake Wetlands held at Uncertain, Tx in 2003. BULLETIN: The Ramsar performance was a great success and many new fans of Harriet were created!

BOY, AM I HOOKED ONLINE !
I research quite a lot of family genealogy as well as other historical persons, places and events and have enjoyed enormously the excellent genealogy sites offered on the net. I also surf the auction channels frequently to pick up items I would not otherwise have a clue where to find. It's amazing!

INTERESTS AND ENJOYMENT !
I have a wide range of interests including theatre, music, books, vintage, aerobics, travel, decorating, and enjoying my two grandchildren. My husband and I enjoyed big-band dancing and attended many during the last years of his life. My husband died of a one-timne chronic luekemia that turned serious in 2002. It was a terrible loss for me and my family. I also lost my step-father and a beloved uncle and aunt that year so the year was pretty awful. However life must go on and my mother (age 94) is in good health and works with me in the vintage fashion shows so we stay busy. Because I was once a band singer, I keep a lot of karaoke tapes of that BB period and use them in my shows. I was also president of five organizations at the same time in the early 90s; dedicated four monuments that I chaired as projects in 1999; and sang for years in the church choir each Sunday. Since I attended the first American high school for USAF dependents in Bushy Park, England ( early 50s;my step-father was stationed there & I lived in London 2yrs) and was a Majorette with the USAF Band at the first American football game ever played in England (Wembley Stadium), I maintain contact with old classmates through email and the Overeas Brats web site and frequently send photos or other material to them to use on the site. Also attend reunions when possible. My hometown/county honored me in May 1999 by bestowing the title of "Marion County Citizen of the Year" on me! Really nice to be recognized by your fellow citizens! Sort of follows in a tradition within the family since my step-father was honored in this manner back in the 1970's. Probably should go to my mother who is the one that keeps "nudging" us on!
