951st Field Artillery Battalion

An Association of World War II Veterans

The mission of this web site is to preserve the history of the 951st Field Artillery Battalion with special emphasis on its activities during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. It also seeks to honor the memory of those gallant men who perished in battle, as well as those who have left our ranks since returning from overseas. Finally, our mission is to provide historical data in an electronic media format for those researching WWII. In the process, we will show the patriotism and love the men of the 951st feel for the United States of America.

The insignia of the 951st FA Bn consists of a gold shield and a wavy azure fess on which there is a gliding gold snake surrounded by a red border. The gold scroll at the bottom contains the motto "cannoneers post." The red band signifies an artillery organization. The gold shield signifies the original organization as cavalry. The azure wavy fess and gold snake represent the unit's origin in the Snake River Valley in the northwestern part of the United States. The crest was approved 29 August, 1944.

The 951st FA Bn has two official publications:

(1) Battalion History, a history of the unit from pre-war to the end of hostilities in Europe. Published by Captain Ernest M Chamberlain (UT) in Giessen, Germany, 1945.  No longer available in hard cover, photocopies only. A copy of the history is in the National Archives.
