ABOUT US
THE BEGINNING AND PROGRESSION OF THE MODERN MILLWRIGHT
In the early years wheels, gears and sprockets were carved and hewed from wood. Millwrights have been traced back to the early 1300’s about the time the first mill was built in England to grind corn. In 1636 millwrights built the first known mill in the United States.
As centuries turned millwrights became the mechanics employed in the installation and repair of machinery. Mills turned to the millwright as the installation man, machine erector, maintenance mechanic and plant changer.
Today the millwright installs, maintains and repairs equipment and machines that manufacture, package, ship and handle most every product and commodity.
The automotive, power generation, pulp and paper, tobacco, beverage, baking, brewing, chemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, water purification, sewage disposal, and appliance industries all depend on the millwright to install, construct and maintain a successful manufacturing status.
Our Local Union was chartered June 14, 1956 and has contractors and millwrights available to serve every industrial need.
