VP's Corner
Vice President's Corner
 December, 2003
Brothers and Sisters,
I am having an extremely hard time trying to understand the lack of Union support by the officers in the Denver area. Southern Colorado officers from Co Springs, Durango, Trinidad and points in between are 98% Union members despite a great difference in pay.
Being retired Army, I belong to all of the major veterans organizations because they fight for the existing rights of veterans and represent them in the on going battle to preserve those rights. Now I can't participate in all of those organizations , but my name on the membership rolls adds to the strength needed to help enact or defeat additional legislation.
The same principal is true with our Union. Membership strength is mandatory to provide a united front with which to defend our CBA. Right now with approximately 130 contract officers, only 24 are Union members , half of which come from Southern CO. This is an extremely weak position and the company is really aware of it. That's why they can ignore the CBA and use stall tactics to defeat the Union.
If we do not provide a united front and lose this Union again, it is very unlikely another will ever represent us. In a few short months contract negotiations begin again , only from a position of strength will we make any progress.
Remember, there is strength in numbers and divided we will fall.  UGSOA Local 50 needs your support.
