These are the Zanesville kids that we took in on 7/21/03. Thank you Susan Crank for going to get them and temporarily housing them for us. These guys had been taken in by a lady in Zanesville and were living outside most of the summer. She decided they needed a better life and asked us to take them. We bathed them, treated them for fleas and let them play for a while.
The boy is in dire need of surgery on his front leg. Apparently, he got it stuck in the fence and it never got treated. It has healed wrong and will require surgical repair. He is currently at the vet.
All of these kids are so sweet. We have one male and five females. They are on their way to their foster homes awaiting permanent homes. Three of them are spoken for already and once they are spayed / neutered, HW tested, vaccinated, etc. their adoptions will be finalized.
If you'd like to help us offset the cost of their care and surgeries, please contact me at CenOHSheltieResc@aol.com. All donations are now tax deductible to the donors. Any help is greatly appreciated.
This gives new meaning to the phrase..."Going out to pick up a six pack"! :o)
Penny
PS..please lend a prayer for Patch and his leg!

7/24/03 Here's Patch sporting his new Cast! There were two bones broken. They set them put him in a splint and cast and what a difference! Doesn't he look so much better? You can tell the pain has been eased. What a handsome young man! The suffering he must have endured is just beyond comprehension. The important thing is...he's in good hands now! Thank you Kim for that!
The surgeon says that Patch will need to have not only pins but metal plates put into the leg as well. This is what is needed to do it right. To do it any other way would mean he'd end up crippled later in life.
So, Patch is scheduled to have his surgery on Monday, July 28th. They will also do any tendon/ligament repairs that are needed at that time as well. The estimated cost of this surgery is $1500.00.
Since the ASSA National Sheltie Rescue has declined to help with his expenses, (Even though he is a sheltie in need, apparently, we aren't an "approved" rescue in their books and I will not transfer him), the vet has allowed us to set up a payment plan to allow us time to raise the funds. However, Patch won't have to wait for the surgery.
So, next on our agenda is to get him safely through his surgery and all the girls spayed and into permanent homes. At the same time, we are focusing on fundraising. If you have any suggestions on fundraisers or would like to help us with the expenses, please contact me at CenOHSHeltieResc@aol.com. Remember...we are an approved rescue through the IRS...all donations are now tax deductible!

7/28/03 - I know everyone wants to know. Patch came through the surgery just fine. He was resting quietly when last I spoke with Kim. He is truly our first "bionic" dog! In order to fix this mangle up the right way...it took SEVEN screws and one metal plate. Once the swelling goes down the soft wrap will be removed and a cast put on. He will need to wear that at least four weeks with cast changes every ten days or so. That will allow the doctor to check his progress. Thank you Dr. Wolfe and Kim Heiser for taking such great care of this precious little guy. We owe you a tremendous thank you. And thank you to all of you who have donated to his surgery fund. We've been so touched by your outpouring of good wishes, offers of help and donations. It's so refreshing to know there is such kind hearted and caring people out there. All of us are so very grateful...but, not half as much as the six pack kids! - Ps...he was neutered today too...boy will he be surprised when he realizes that!

8/20/03 Well, The only two without homes yet are Cinnamon and Kobe. It won't be long though. All it will take is a few people meeting them. They are too sweet for words!
Willow is doing great in her new home. She's already out running the grounds with her Doberman sibling. She's been to at least one agility trial for socialization. Great job Annette!
Panda's new family is away on vacation this week. They will be home next week and the paperwork will be completed to make her a permanent member of the family. She's a charmer that's for sure.
Breeze is in her new home too. She's learning what toys are all about from her big brother Parker. What a pair. Thanks Denise....I know you have your hands full now!
Patch is in his forever home awaiting the final removal of his cast. He had it changed yesterday. He's doing so well this may be his last one! Gail has her hands full trying to keep this squirmy guy quiet. Just a little while longer little man! He is absolutely adorable. I wish you could all meet him. He is just too sweet.
Thank you all for checking in with us. These guys all send their love and sloppy kisses! Keep checking back!

9/13/03 -The CAST is OFF! It's looking good. IT's a bit smaller than the other leg and he's favoring it a little. These are all expected. Two weeks and it has his final x-ray! Now...to ease him slowly into activity and build the muscles back up. Thank you all...we couldn't have done it without you! Patch sends licks and hugs to all!

The girls are starting to show their personalities! They love the attention and play time! They just can't seem to get enough food either. They do need to fatten up a bit! They love their toys and to give hugs. We got lots of hugs and kisses yesterday. What a sweet group of girls. Breeze and the bi-black girls are spoken for...but, Kobe and Cinnamon still need homes.
