The Harris Guide 2003 is out and available
Upstart are delighted to anounce the publication of "The Harris Guide 2003," (ISBN: 0970127448) a unique directory of the world's GLBT Press. This is the third edition of the book. Previous editions have been nominated for the Lambda Literary Award and the American Library Association's Best gay and lesbian Nonfiction Award. Apart from including the listings from print media the book includes listings of GLBT radio and television factual programs. Entries for media outlets include vital information such as phone and fax numbers, email and website addresses as well as the names of key personnel. The all-important ISBN is 0-9701274-4-8. The book will be available from online booksellers, GLBT bookstores, as well as chains such as Barnes And Noble.
Upstart Press have been delighted with the success of Peggy Ullman Bell's novel, "Psappha: A Novel of Sappho" ($14.95 ISBN: 0-9701274-9-9, which was our first book.
It is a superb page-turner reminiscent of the great Mary Renault. In her historical novel Peggy Ullman Bell brings to life one of the most exciting and fascinating figures of the ancient world - Sappho, The Poetess. The book made two lists of the best ten books of the year compiled by different book critics. What makes it all the more extraordinary is that this assured work marks Peggy Ullman Bell's debut as a novelist.
The book makes a great gift for your friends - that is after you have curled up in a chair and read it yourself!

Book on AIDS tackles the disease from a new angle
"Living and Dying in 4/4 Time" ($12.95 ISBN: 0970127480) is a memoir of the AIDS years from the viewpoint of social worker Paul Gallotta. From working as a journalist interviewing the icons of the heavy metal music world such as Axl Rose, Ozzy Osbourne, and Sebastian Bach for magazines such as "Circus" and struggling with his own sexuality, the memoir takes us on Paul's journey to where today he is a case manager for one of South Florida's AIDS Service Organizations and working with people struggling with AIDS.
In this searing, irreverent and sometimes wickedly funny memoir he tlls the pure unvarnished truth of what is really going on in the trenches of AIDS in this country. It doesn't always make for comfortable reading, but for anyone genuinely interested in the subject it makes a compelling addition to the literature.
