Bob Facts
IT"S All About Bob!

Born:  October 26, 1942-Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk England.  His mom was sent there from London during W W II to escape the bombing and returned to London two weeks at the height of the attacks with little Bob. From age 3 lived at 46 Upper Tollington Park, Stroud Green. Bob's a Scorpio

School:  He didn't like school and school didn't like him, left at age 15.

Odd Jobs: From 15 to 25 Bob had a slue of odd jobs and I mean odd.  He was a first a file clerk, a member of the Norwegian Merchant Marines, (strange since he is not Norwegian) ,jumped ship and took up with a stripper in Amsterdam, (way to go Bob!).  He was also a steeplejack, a banana picker, a fire eater, (yes fire eater) a trainee accountant, plumbers helper, and worked on a kibbutz in Israel, gave that up when they wanted him to fight to defend Israel (strange since he is not Jewish either)  Porter covent gardens.  (link to his ghost story)

Acting:  The famous story goes at age 25 he went to a friends audition had a few drinks while hanging around waiting.  They assumed he was there for a part and asked him to read... then asked him to read out loud!  He got the lead. An agent told him he should consider taking up acting professionally, it appears he listened to him.  One of the few occasions agents have been correct.

Theatre: Lots o theatre experience in the 60's 70's and 80's. Here's the tip of the iceberg: The Feather Pluckers, The Duchess of Malfi, Veterans, King Lear, As You Like It, Richard III, Anthony And Cleopatra, The Iceman Cometh, Guys and Dolls, A Man For All Seasons, Pygmalion, Wicked Songs Blah blah blah blah........

Bob's Movies: I don't have a day to waste writing so just check out the link.

What else I know:  Robert William Hoskins, first marriage, two children, Alex Hoskins born 1969, and Sarah Hoskins born 1973.  Alex was born with a disability and needed extensive therapy in order to walk.  Shooting Zulu Dawn the press reported Bob was living in a mud hut with his girlfriend.  His first wife filed for divorce, when the divorce was final Bob broke up with his girlfriend.  Married the second time to Linda Banwell, a school teacher, in 1982, two children Rosa Hoskins 1983 and Jack Hoskins 1985.  He met Linda in a pub on Prince Charles and Lady Diana's wedding day. For Bob it was love at first sight, no comment from Linda. Bob moved into Linda's one room flat, she supported them.  Apparently Bob, though a very successful actor, wasn't very good handling his money.  Currently he lives in a house near Holloway Prison about a mile from the house his parents owed.

Parents: Bob's father was born 1914 he was a bookkeeper, and last I heard was living on the ground floor in Bob's house and still having the occasional female over night guest.  Bob's mom is deceased, died of cancer.  Her maiden name was Hopkins, I have conflicting info on her vocation.  I have heard she was a nursery school teacher and a cook so I'm thinking she was probably a cook in a school. They were pretty protective of their only child.

 Other bits of info,

Measurements: Jacket- 22.5" sleeve, 18.5" shoulder to shoulder,  26" chest, 40" collar.  Shirt-22" sleeve, 21" shoulder to shoulder, 58" chest, 35.5 collar. size 18-34/35.  Pants- 38" waist, 27.5" inseam. Height 5'6

Hobbies: cooking, perfecting dishwasher loading, quitting smoking camels and testing the occasional gin and tonic, reading, photography.   As a kid he always like art, painting and carving but was pretty lonely as an only child.

His Fans: He's got some dedicated straight and gay fans that probably perplexes him because he is the anti-hollywood star, very grounded.

Favorite Book: Creation by Gore Vidal
Favorite Music: Beethoven to Beatles
Favorite Artist: Toulouse Lautrec

And I just love this guy, that's it!

What my personal experience with this? After writting him several times I did get a response once in 1990. It was typed from an assistant saying Bob thanks me for my nice letter.  What ??!! no picture no autograph ??!! Pretty cheesey. So did that stop me?  No.  Instead I spent countless hours building a website.
What am I stupid?  Don't answer that.
