What is a doula?
The word doula is greek and means "to serve". A doula is a woman who provides emotional and physical support to the laboring woman.

Why do I need a doula?
You dont necessarily need a doula-You deserve one!
Studies show a decrease in cesareans and assisted deliveries (forceps, vacuum) when a doula is present. Mothers report more satisfaction with their births. A doula is a woman that the couple chooses to assist them with the birth of their baby. She joins them when labor begins and remains with them throughout the labor and birth process and continues to provide support during the immediate postpartum period.
Labor Support

I am a certified doula and childbirth educator. I have attended several births. I believe that birth is a normal physiological process.  I believe in the woman's ability to grow and birth her baby.
As your doula I will meet with you and your partner during the prenatal period to discuss my role at your birth and answer any questions you or your partner may have in regards to having a doula.
We will meet to discuss your plans for the birth and I will answer any questions you have regarding pregnancy and labor.
You will contact me when labor begins and I will provide information, support and suggest comfort measures for you during the early stage of labor. I will join you as your labor progresses to offer verbal encouragement, physical and emotional support for you and your partner. I provide support during your labor and birth and remain with you during the immediate postpartum period to answer questions, help with breasfeeding and help you to get comfortable.
We will follow up with phone calls and a postpartum visit will be provided.
