Marathon Sports is about running, plain and simple. Our business is focused on serving our customers with the best running products available from only the best manufacturers. We only sell product that we believe in.
We started in 1973, selling a few shoes and accessories at road races, until we opened at our current location in 1976. Owner Jerry Kokesh is a pioneer in the St. Louis running community, serving as the second president of the St. Louis Track Club from 1975-1980, when he formed Gateway Athletic-St. Louis. During this same time, he served two terms as President of the Road Runners Club of America, while holding an officer’s position on their Executive Board for 19 years. He was also on the Board of the Association of Road Racing Athletes and USA Track and Field. As a result of his contributions to running in the US, he is a member of the Road Runners Club of America Hall of Fame as well as the Steamboat Classic Hall of Fame in Peoria, Illinois.
Currently, Kokesh also works as the Media Relations and Marketing Manager for the US Biathlon Association, the National Governing body for the Olympic sport of Biathlon.
Even with a busy schedule as storeowner and sports administrator, he is a lifetime runner, still logging 40-50 miles per week and finishing 46 marathons over the years. He has directed well over 1000 running events in his career and coached several top runners in the area most notably top marathoner Joe Leuchtmann.
Kokesh is even more experienced in the running business, having worked closely with many of the major companies in the formative years of the running boom. He has been closely associated with adidas, having worked in running promotions in the 1980s and today is involved with the company through his second sport, biathlon. His accumulated knowledge of running product, technology, and injury prevention is second to none in the area. Both recreational runners and high school coaches know to "go see Jerry" regarding nagging running problems.
Store manager Greg Reecht has worked with Kokesh for 10 years. Reecht is a former State High School Track Champion and a member of National Championship Teams at Missouri Baptist University. He coached at both Lindenwood University and Maryville University before joining Marathon Sports. Reecht is the high school expert, who knows all the coaches and events. he also is a correspondent for several publications dealing with high school track and cross-country. His experience in these sports makes him adept at suggesting the perfect training and competition shoes for the high school athlete.
Both Kokesh and Reecht have extensive background as runners to help everyone from the casual runner or walker to the most competitive athlete in selecting the best footwear and apparel for their individual needs.

Selling only the best from adidas, Nike and ASICS
Marathon Sports is a RUNNING store, not a lifestyle store. Our focus is on a limited number of the best shoes and apparel styles, not bumper stickers and key chains.
We carry only the best products from our three major vendors. All companies offer many products but we pick only those that we feel will enhance our customer's running or walking programs.
We select our shoes based purely on performance, function, and durability. It is important to us that when a customer leaves with one of our products, they are happy with the purchase and will be enjoying their time on the road or track.
As with shoes, we select apparel that is functional and appropriate for our ever-changing St. Louis climate. We look for the best functioning, most durable fabrics that make those very hot or very cold days enjoyable. This means that there is NO cotton product in our store. All of the apparel made with synthetic fabrics we carry, such as adidas Climalite, Nike DriFit, and ASICS Thermopolis, are function-first products!
In addition to shoes and apparel, we carry gels, nutrition bars, socks, running magazines, and other accessories.
We always have a good selection of entry forms for running events both local and national to provide customers with information they need and want.
In addition to directing our own events such as the Snowball series and the Missouri River 8K, Marathon Sports and Gateway Athletics can also help administer your running event, providing equipment and services at reasonable prices.

Store Hours and Contact Information
Marathon Sports is located at 13453 Chesterfield Plaza, Chesterfield, Missouri on the northeast corner of Olive and Woods Mill Road (Highway 141), 3 miles west of I-270 on Olive.
The store is next to Annie's Books (who have a large sign) at the back of the strip center directly behind the Dairy Queen.
Store hours are Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat.--10-5, Wed. 10-4, and Friday 10-8. We are happy to make special appointments in the evening if you cannot get by during regular hours. Our phone number is 314-434-9577.
