                                             Pirate's Final Voyage                            (Page 2)


On October 12, 1950 during sweeping operations between the Islands of Sin-Do in Wanson Harbor Korea, the Pirate struck a mine at approximately 12:01 PM and went down within a four minute period.  The following photos were taken by SN G.D. Carpenter , with his own camera, while on board the USS Redhead AMS-324 and following behind the USS Pirate.

This was the explosion of a Depth Charge launched from the Pirate's fantail.  the detonated charge was approximately 600 lbs of explosives.  The Russian mine that struck the Pirate was apporoximately 1200 lbs (according to reports)
