"VAN MATRE ANCESTRY"The Van Meterens- originally situated in the Heerlykleid Meters, in Geldermelsen, Holland Meeteren=a village in the Tielerwaard...BOOK REVIEW- "VAN MATRE ANCESTRY" Excerpts from the review by Everton's Genealogical Helper- March-April 1999 issue. "Van Meter, Van Meteren, Van Matre. The book begins with the arrival of Jan Joosten, his wife Maycke Hendricks and five children at New Amsterdam on the 12th of April, the year, 1662 on the ship Fox. Maycke was the widow of a William Crom and all the children except the youngest were all from an earlier marriage. Apparently Jan adopted the Crom children....By December of 1662 the family had settled in Esopus. (later they settled in Wiltwyck, then Kingston), New York where they were members of the Reformed Dutch Church. This interesting book is easy to follow and full of personal and local histories, photographs and maps, and thorough documentation. "An informative works for those interested in genealogy and the relation thereof."
