Daniel LaVene, M.D., F.A.C.E.P.
I am an Emergency Physician In Orlando, FL (like the ER TV show except with more appeal than George Clooney!) I also am known for wearing the most colorful scrubs than anyone else in the city! My wife Jan and 2 kids Aaron 17 and Alex 15 share my humble home. My treasure (besides the family) is what you see above: The world's Only remaining FOUR DOOR FOUR PASSENGER CORVETTE "America"! Currently, I am having an on frame restoration to straighten imperfections and get a new paint job! Finally she is finished! The counter Below reset after 10,000 hits! So add 10,000 to the hits below!!!!!

MY FOUR DOOR CORVETTE!
Actually 5 "Americas" and one prototype (1979) were made in 1980. This is the only production one left (the others being destroyed in various car accidents). They were designed by California Custom Coach in Pasedena, Ca., and there were plans to make 40 production vehicles per year for Chevy at a cost of $37,500 each back then. Due to the economics of the time (interest rates were at $18% and the energy crisis-and a standard 2 seater vette sold for only 12K) they were unaffordable and only 5 were made; custom designed for each prospective buyer. This particular car was originally owned by Singer DOROTHY MCGUIRE of the McGuire Sisters and was purchased along with a red one, which has since been destroyed.
The prototype first appeared on the cover of Corvette Fever Jan 1979, then on the cover of Road & Track Feb. 1979, in which the reviewers made mention of how well the car was built, designed and how it drove smoother than a standard corvette. 30 inches were added to the wheelbase; 2 actual cars were cut in half and brought back together with 4 full size seats and leg room to accommodate four. The hatchback is also a prototype as they were not available until 1982. My car was featured in Corvette Fever Magazine March 2001 with a 2 page spread. Click on the first link below under favorite links to see article.
This actual car was used as a model for Monogram and was produced as a plastic model kit in 1980. My car has less than 18,000 actual miles and really is a head turner! It has now had an on frame restoration. It truly is a PRACTICAL FAMILY SPORTSCAR!!!
