Ears

Cropped/Natural

Cropping of ears is done at around 9-12 weeks of age. Length and shapes may vary.  Pet crops are normally shorter and wider, especially at the bell/base area.  Show cropped ears are longer and thinner with a curve towards the top.

Cropping of ears is illegal in some countries.

Some examples of different ear crops:

This is a short crop with lots of bell left.

This pic was taken several hours after surgery.  This is a nice show crop that took only 4 postings to stand! It sometimes takes MONTHS of taping and posting to get the ears to stand correctly.  Stitches are in the ears at this time and they will be allowed to go whatever way they wish at this time.  After the stitiches are removed, the posting will begin.

Aftercare of the ears is very important.  You must dedicate time and patience in posting the ears for them to stand correctly.  This dog has an ear that lays flat on his head.

This is a short pet crop.  Resembles a "pit" crop.

Posted ears.

Cropping of the ears can be bothersome for a few days.
