Yamaha YZ Models And History


1974 Yamaha YZ125A

First YZ Model produced for 1974. Silver W/Strap tank. This bike featured aluminum alloy fuel tank, 28MM mikuni round slide carburetor, and A 5 speed gearbox. The ignition supplied was CDI (Internal Rotor) The bike is very close to the MX125 model offered the same year with the exception of a few items (paint color, fuel tank, chrome bore cylinder, ridgeless aluminum rims, and a few other items)





1974 Yamaha YZ250A

The YZ250A Was the first year for this exciting model and the "Strap Tank" was the coolest of the Japanese Factory Replica Models offered from the big 4. It featured alloy wheels, thru frame expansion chamber, vented gas cap, super light alloy forks, and more which were part of the package as well.


1975 Yamaha YZ125B

The 2nd Year Of The YZ, Basicaly The Same As Previous Year With The Exception Of Yellow Paint Sceme.


1975 Yamaha YZ250B

The YZ250B Was the first year of the New Monoshock designed suspension, taken directly off the previous years Factory Race Bikes ridden by Pierre Karsmakers and the Yamaha Factory Race Team. This bike was Purely Dominating and handled better the faster it was ridden. It featured fiberglass sidepanels, aluminum alloy tank, and new 3 piece expansion chamber, and was the last year of the "Strap Tank" production bikes.

1976 Yamaha YZ125C

Introduced in 1975, but produced for 1976 Model year, this Monoshock Motocrosser set a new standard for all 125 racers and manufacturers. The chrome bore had been replaced with a more serviceable cast sleeve and the horsepower was increased to 20.18. The reedcage was increased from a 2 petal to a 4 petal reed.





1976 Yamaha YZ125X

Introduced in mid 1976, This YZ's "Large Cap" canister air forks are the most obvious feature along with fork boots and flat style fork legs.





1976 Yamaha YZ175C

The 1976 YZ175C was produced only 1 year and proved to be at the top of the small group of 175 machines commercially available. This bike was basically the same as the 125's with the exception of larger expansion chamber, carburation, and 22 HP. These Bikes Were The Favorite For Cross Country Riding As They Handled Excellent.



1977 Yamaha YZ400D



This year Yamaha totally redesigned the entire bike. They changed the engine/frame/and monoshock design. The fuel tanks were now made out of plastic as apposed to the aluminum ones used on earlier models (1974-1976) The travel on these bikes were steps above prior model YZ's.




1981 Yamaha YZ465H

The 1981 YZ465H Was Yamaha's 2nd Attempt At Repeating Their Reputation Of Building The Best "Open Class" Motocrosser In Recorded History. Among Some Of The Changes Over Last Year's Model Were: Larger Airbox, Lighter Frame, Larger 43mm Fork Assembly W/New Triple Clamps, Re-Worked Monoshock That Has More Damping Settings, And A More Controllable/Predictable Powerband. The YZ465H Cylinder Has A Fractionally Higher, Wider Intake Port/Wider Exhaust Port And An Entirely New Exhaust System. HP Was 42.18 @ 7000 RPM.
