WINGS

This piece is made separately and applied to the body.

With white, ch17, 4dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, 5 dc in end ch, working around other side of ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next 2 ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, join to top of ch 3 with sl st.
ROW 2 - Ch3, *2 dc in next dc, dc in dc,  repeat from * until you come to the hdc below, hdc in next 2 hdc, sc in next 2 sc, sl st in next 2 sl st, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last dc, join with sl st to top of ch 3.  Fasten off and weave in tail
ROW 3 - attach black in any stitch and work a row of sc around outer edge - you must increase in the rounded ends so it will lay fairly flat.  Finish off and weave in tail.

You now have a piece that resembles a dog bone - rounded on the ends and thin in the middle.  The rounded parts want to cup slightly, and it appears that there are too many stitches in the center.  This is correct.  It should not lay flat.

Thread a yarn needle with black and make a straight line (using backstitch) from the black edge at thecenter of one rounded end through the starting chain and to the center of the black edge on the other rounded end.  Break off and fasten tails.
With needle and black yarn, make a V shape in the rounded part of each wing with the points toward the center.  (-----------Weave in the tails.
Locate the center of the middle, and with black yarn attack it to the back of the Bumble Bee in the center of the white body section.

Straighten the wing edge that is toward the opening of the purse and tack down where the black of the head and white of the body meet.  (See picture above)  Pull wings upward at the back edge and make a tack about 1" above joining.  This will give the wings some dimension, and make them appear to stand up from the body.

EYES (Make 2)

With gold, ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook, join with sl st to first sc.  Break off gold.
ROW 2 - With white, attach in any stitch and work 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)  Break off white, leaving an 8" tail to sew eyes to head.

DRAWSTRINGS  (Make 2)
Leaving a 4" tail, ch 71, sl st in 2nd st from hook and each ch to the end of ch.  Break off leaving a 4" tail.  (These tails are to attach the tassels)

Weave drawstrings through dc row of body.  Weave 2nd drawstring opposite of first to make a secure closing when they are tightened.  Tie tails together with a square knot at ends after weaving.  Do not cut tails.

TASSELS  (Make 2)
Cut 24 pieces of yarn 5" long, center over tails at end of drawstrings and tie securely with a square knot.  Do not cut tying yarn (tails from handles), but incorporate them in the tassel.  Fold at the tying point, and straighten yarn so it lays evenly.  Using a short length of yarn, tie the tassel tightly about 3/4" from top.  Straighten tails of tassel and cut off evenly at about 1 1/2".

Tassels may be made with any of the three colors used in the purse, or you may mix the colors any way you want.
