Spiced Rum III
2008 Fishing Tournaments

NEWER AND FASTER

We have recently upgraded to triple 300 Evinrude
E-TEC's on the rear of our 33' Contender. That's right, three Evinrude 300's, and those ponies are flat out screamin'. Fully loaded with six of us on the boat we can get her up to about 65 mph.

Responding to the demand for more performance from high-end boat builders and savvy end users, Evinrude is rolling out its biggest outboard yet for 2008 season, the E-TEC 300. With a burly 3.4 liters of deplacement, this direct-injected two-stroke V-6 is compact and lightweight. It is equipped with the SLE Magnum gearcase that features improved hydrodynamics, bearings and cooling capacity. The 300 has a high to power-to-weight ratio and enhanced low-end torque, both of which combine to make a winning package for single- or duel-engine applications on midsized center consoles and walkaround boats. Backed by a three-year non-declining warranty, the E-TEC 300 is available in 25-and 30 inch shaft lengths.

What separates a good time on the water from a great time on the water? Evinrude - Power and performance. With the instant throttle response and top end speed of a lighter, quieter engine and the durability of a sturdy, robust design, their engines give you the power and responsiveness every boater craves. Spend more time on the water, but an Evinrude.

First released in 2003, Evinrude E-TEC brought to the outboard engine industry several unique features, including no dealer-scheduled maintenance for three years and a new styling package. E-TEC engines optimize oil and gas consumption and create 80 percent less carbon monoxide than a four-stroke engine creates at idle. They also use approximately 50 percent less oil than traditional direct-injection systems and 75 percent less than traditional two-strokes.

As for our fishing reels, "Avet fishing reels" just climbed aboard as of 2008. We have three of the brand new Avet HX-wides (some times called the Hoo-X) these hold 425 yards of 40 pound line. We also have six Avet LX-6.0's, four Avet Pro EXW - 50 wides (which we use for high speed trolling and wahoo fishing), four Avet EXW 4/0's, and one Avet JX-4 in our fishing arsenal.

Avet reels are quickly becoming a popular alternative to some of the Tier 1 branded saltwater reels. Born in Chatsworth California these reels come out of a 20,000 square foot machine shop. In 2002 the company released a new lineup of saltwater reels, all of which are machined in and out from billet aluminum stock. One of the main selling features of these reels is their durability and simple dual screw sideplate which makes takedown and maintenance easier than ever.

Their thoughtfully designed planetary gear system also allows for a smaller gear case, lightening the reel and making it a better match for today's lightweight rods. Six stainless steel ball bearings give these reels incredible smoothness and increases casting distance and free spool. An oversized carbon fiber drag system combined with stainless drag plates gives Avet Reels something that no other lever drag reel has-an ultra smooth drag with the ability to free spool at a full drag setting!

With a frame, spool, and side plate fully machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum stock. Avet Reels have incredible strength and corrosion resistance built into their design. A dual screw side plate allows for easy takedown and maintenance. Avet reels are currently offered in a durable type 2 anodizing and are available in silver, gold, metallic gray, and navy blue finishes. Avet reels also come standard with a rod clamp that attaches even when the spool is full of line.

I met the owner/Marcus of Fish Tamer Lures at the Miami Boat Show last year. He showed me his "Fish Tamer Hooks" and told me that his hooks were the "BOMB!" I bought several packages of his "Fish Tamer Live Bait Hooks", and they came in a 100 hooks to a package. I couldn't believe his prices...$16.00 for a bag of 100 hooks and a 50 hook bag for $6.50!!!

I used his Fish Tamer Hooks over the entire year of 2007 and when I went back to the Miami Boat Show this past January I met up with my friend Marcus once again. I told him that his hooks were awesome, that they had hooked and landed many tournament winners over the past year. I informed him that I was thoroughly impressed with his hooks because that hadn't rusted and they maintained their sharpness, and that I could re-bag rigs and use them over again as long as the wire wasn't kinked. I further let him know that these were the only hooks I wanted to use for offshore slow trolling, kite fishing, and all around live baiting. Marcus then pulled out his newest hooks on the market...he calls them the "Ultra X-bn Stinger Hooks." He gave me a #2 size stinger and had my try to bend it, I couldn't do it! The points on them are extremely sharp and again the prices were right on my budget.

I couldn't believe he was selling a 25-pack of Ultra X-bn Stinger Hooks for only $6.50. That's right $6.50, where in the world can you get a twenty-five pack of stinger hooks for that price? No where that I know. So save some money and fill up your tackle boxes and kits with his hooks. Heck, I bought so many I filled my entire hook box with all assorted sizes I am good for the entire tournament fishing year.

Check out www.tamerproducts.net and click on his "Shop On Line" and then on "Fish Tamer Hooks" to place an order. Or you can e-mail Marcus by clicking here.

Ocean Led Underwater Lighting

The Spiced Rum III is a 33' Contender outfitted with OceanLED Super Blue 2010TH lights out the transom and our Super Blue and Super Green Fish Strobes underneath the hull. Fish Strobes can be used at night to draw bait and gamefish as well as during the day to create what appear to be very strong and deep penetrating reflections off of trolled or drifted baits.

The original Thru-Hull with the worlds smallest hole cut-out for a thru hull light at only 1"! This light with its 30mm profile head makes it suitable for Transom mount applications. A very quick to fit and effective underwater light.

All lights now utilize Tritonium Optical lenses, and are supplied with a quick connect system by Deutsch, ensuring almost 'fool proof' installation and compliance with ABYC, E11 regulations. Approved by Lloyds register and undergoing UL, RINA, DNV and ABS approvals. Available in all 5 sizes including the massive 4010 Series with Super White LEDs or with the NEW Super Blue LEDs.

Some Questions:

Can I run with my lights on? Absolutely, LEDs are a solid state light source, therefore are vibration proof. All lights are fitted with a thermal cut out, so if the light does overheat it will turn itself off as a precaution.

Why LED? "Industry experts predict that LEDs are set to be the future lighting source of almost all lighting applications!"

Whose got the brightest lights? It is no longer a simple case of power. It comes down to design, technology and size. OceanLED offers lights that compare in light output to every competitors models, however always using less power, with much longer life spans and with far better color retention in water.

If you want to be the baddest froggie in the pond, get yourself some of these OceanLed underwater lights for your boat!!!

CHUM IN A DRUM

What a great new tournament fishing item it's called the Sliderigger and man does thing work!!! Whetheryour drifting, working a kite rig, or just slow trolling with the boom this little baby does it all. What a great concept. You can fish up to three rods in this rod and reel custom made station, and talk about working all three reels with ease, they are all just a reach away. You don't have to walk anywhere when you fish the sliderigger.

The Sliderigger will allow you to troll two or more baits in the spread, the more the better. The baits can be trolled midway back or short to take advantage of trolling baits behind your dredge or teaser set up, a very effective way to present your baits. The stiff Sliderigger boom with its unique slide action release clip ensures rock solid hookups. This is also the perfect tool to use as a bait and switch station by winding in the teaser on the inside rod while dropping back the rigged bait on the outside rod. A 4-foot clearance between them will keep it tangle free.

The siderigger is an innovative product made by fisherman for fisherman. This is a fishing tool that offers many use options. The double rod holder system gives you an infinite back and forth slide action allowing you to keep the rod holders close to the inside and outside of your boat gunnels. Both kite, drift, and bottom fishing. The extension tube that comes with the unit allows you to change the siderigger mode that straddles the gunnels to lifting the rod holders up. This enables the unit to turn sideways and become a kite fishing station by removing the Sliderigger boom and attaching a third rod holder in the middle for the kite rod and spreading the two outside rod holders out.

The Sliderigger head swivels from 0 to 95 Degrees left or right to be fished on either side of the boat. This feature also allows the unit to be used for drift or bottom fishing. When not being fished this unit will triple your rod capacity. Just click on the link or pictures above to take you to see more of The sliderigger.
