As a voice teacher, we focus on classical technique. Bel Canto, or "beautiful singing", is the Italian style of effortless vocal production. We free the voice as we free the mind of manipulation and bad habits. It begins with the breath. Flowing and free, full of energy, but never forced in or out or held at any point. This frees the instument and we begin to build and discover the natural tone that is your voice.
As a musical coach, we focus on the character and story. Treating the song like a monologue. More beggining students will learn of how to handle the English (and other) language(s) when sung. Dealing with diphongs and diction. More advanced students will focus on the journey of the song - the purpose - and personalizing every moment.
As acting coach, we focus on the life and soul of the character. I am very big on the physical life of the character. The breath, the rhythm, the energy. Classical Line analysis, character bio, developing strong subtext/inner monologues. My specialty as an actor's director is to brainstorm for those all important subtleties that will strenghthen the work.
