THE HUNT IS ON...
Ghosts are believed to be the spirit or souls of those who have passed on. Why they remain is the ultimate mystery. Theories abound about ghosts themselves, such as the possibility that they are composed of, or affected by, electromagnetic energy. Times of strong electromagnetic energy activity such as electrical storms or solar flares are supposed to be good times for them to manifest. The International Ghost Hunters Society has a good list of standards and protocols for a successful and safe hunt. For a basic hunt you'll need the following:
1. A flashlight
2. Proper clothes and comfortable shoes (dress for the weather!)
3. Someone else. Not only is this good for safety reasons, but they can agree or have differing experiences.
4. A compass or electromagnetic field meter. Remember those energies? A change in the field could mean you've found one. They tend to register low frequencies between 2-7milligauss on your field meter. If you're using a compass, be aware of true North.
5. A 35 mm camera with 400 ASA or higher film. If you feel something or get a reading, take a picture of it! Remember to have asked permission first. It might sound silly, but you're showing respect and it couldn't hurt. If you have them, you can use a videocamera or digital camera as well, in addition to your 35mm.
6. A digital thermometer or thermal scanner. If you like, you can use these tools to detect cold spots. Many people report a temperature drop in the presence of a spirit.
7. A notebook & pen/pencils. Log everything that happens and what you feel.
Remember to always show respect. No alcohol or drugs because they impair your senses. Do not smoke during a hunt or wear perfumes because sometimes spirits are accompanied by scents. Think positively. And even more important: USE COMMON SENSE. If your situation is becoming uncomfortable or dangerous for you GO! Just as you have negative or hostile humans, you can run into spirits who are the same way.
