Terri's fight news and issues 7-2-04 Parents Of Woman In Right-To-Die Case Barred From Fight Over Law POSTED: 10:33 PM EDT June 30, 2004 DUNEDIN, Fla. -- An appeals court said Wednesday the parents of a woman at the center of a bitter right-to-die case may not intervene in the legal battle over a state law keeping her alive. "Terri's Law," passed in October, allowed Gov. Jeb Bush to order the reinsertion of a feeding tube keeping Terri Schiavo alive. She has been in a persistent vegetative state for 14 years after collapsing from a chemical imbalance. The 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld Circuit Judge W. Douglas Baird's ruling denying an attempt by Bob and Mary Schindler to join the fight over the law's constitutionality. The appeals court didn't issue an opinion with the ruling. Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo, is suing the governor to have the law overturned. Bush is defending the law and the Schindlers wanted to join him as a party to the lawsuit. The state Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Aug. 31. "There's no question that the governor is actively defending the lawsuit and there was no purpose to be served by adding additional parties," said Michael Schiavo's lawyer, George Felos. The ruling doesn't prevent the Schindlers from filing documents with the Supreme Court related to the case. The parents' lawyer, Pat Anderson, said the Schindlers' voices will be heard. "It would be a shame to shut them out of the process," she said. For years, the Schindlers have battled Michael Schiavo as he has tried to have his wife's feeding tube removed. He argues she would not have wanted to be kept alive artificially. The Schindlers say they doubt their now 40-year-old daughter had any such end-of-life wishes and believe her condition could improve with therapy. Terri laughs, smiles, cries and continues to make every effort known to man that she is alive and wishes to continue to live! Michael Schiavo continues to not allow Terri out of her room. He keeps her hostage like she is his human possession. It has been well over 3 years since Terri has been allowed out of her room. Schiavo insists that she is kept hidden from the general public so no one can see who Terri really is, or furthermore, how she desires and needs to be treated like any human being SHOULD be treated. This is NOT a matter of Pro-Life or Pro Death! This is a QUESTION of when did the judicial system in our country begin supporting the killing of innocent people? Please write or call President Bush. All that it would take is one quick visit from the President for him to see Terri for himself...for him to know that the very kinds of torture he is fighting to stop in Iraq, is happening here to an American citizen, a disabled woman in his country! WE NEED THE PRESIDENT'S HELP NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE AND TERRI IS AGAIN LAID BACK IN HER BED BY SCHIAVO, SLOWLY FORCED TO DIE A PAINFUL DEATH VIA STARVATION AND DEHYDRATION. BACK IN OCTOBER, TERRI SUFFERED AS SHE LAID STARVING TO DEATH, HER LIPS PARCHED, HER EYES PLEADING FOR FLUIDS. THE UPROAR OF THE PEOPLE BROUGHT IN THE GOVERNOR TO INTERVENE ON A TEMPORARY ORDER FOR HER FEEDING TUBE TO BE REINSERTED. MICHAEL SCHIAVO, CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, AND HIS ATTORNEY, GEORGE FELOS OF DUNEDIN, FLORIDA REMAIN DETERMINED TO KILL TERRI IN THIS WAY AGAIN BY FIGHTING THE COURTS AND THE GOVERNOR. We don't kill prisoners by starving them to death. Why should we sit back and allow Michael Schiavo to kill Terri ??? We thank you ALL for your continued interest and support for Terri. George Greer, the notorious judge in the Terri Schiavo case will face a new opponent, Jan Govan, for the first time in 12 years in the upcoming August 31st election. And we need a lot of help!! The number of voters going to the polls to vote is only like 15-20% of all registered voters - the election is held August 31st...any coincidence that the Florida Supreme Court will hear the case appeal for Terri Schiavo that very day? The general consensus is that they are going to see who wins this election before they make their decision. If Greer loses, it may very well sway them to fear the pro-life vote and rule in Terri's favor because it is very difficult to get an incumbent judge removed. If Jan wins it sends a strong message for pro-life voting forces! But Jan Govan's campaign needs more than just voters - we need volunteers to answer phones, stuff mailings, post signs, go door to door, transportation to the polls - and of course they need a lot of donations, which can be made on-line at his website. Jan is the BIG underdog. If you want to take a trip to Fl to help, we will find people to put you up!! Go to http://www.jangovan.com/ to see how you can help - They will have the campaign headquarters up early next week at 1504 Gulf to Bay Blvd in Clearwater with phone numbers folks can call. And most important!!!! - THE ELECTION IS AUGUST 31ST WITH EARLY VOTING BEGINNING AUGUST 15TH - so we will also need this small fact published in a big way. We have done the math and know we need only about 80,000 votes to get Greer out, based on the voter turnout at these off-date elections. Spread the word - get involved - link Jan Govan’s website to yours - massive email campaign needed!! More info to follow... Date: 7/2/2004 6:56:46 AM Eastern Daylight Time The above words are a part of an eloquently written article by Mr. Ron Panzer of the Hospice Alliance Project in October 2002. His article captures and summarizes what we are seeing here in Florida at Woodside Hospice, with Terri as victim. Mr. Panzer's article also alerts us as a population to a time where many were killed as a result of their disability. A reminder, how it is imperative for us all to take an active role in our world today to prevent this travesty from happening again. The Hospice Patients Alliance, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity acting to preserve the original hospice mission, promoting quality end-of-life services and offers free information and assistance to hospice patients, families and caregivers nationwide.
